PAULINIAN GLEANERS PRAYER
God our loving Father, through Your Holy Spirit, enable us to participate in your Jesus’ saving mission to make You known
and loved throughout the world. May we joyfully live out our Paulinian identity as gleaners who are:

PRAYERFUL, mindful of who we truly are and why we are here

̶ Your children called to follow Your Holy Will:

SELF- EFFACING, quick to transcend when we are not recognized for the good we have done or when we are taken for
granted.

With TRANQUIL- DARING, to proceed when we feel that the work and responsibilities given us are back-breaking and
beyond our capacity; and

ALL TO ALL, willing to faithfully serve everyone especially the least, the last, and the lost.

Our Lady of Chartes, pray for us.

St. Paul the Apostle, our Patron, pray for us.
Fr. Louis Chauvet and our First Sisters, intercede for us.
Caritas Christi Urget Nos, now and for ever.
Amen.
MONDAY AFFIRMATION

As a Christ-centered Paulinian, I
am a mindful, self-directed
learner and role model,
consciously expressing
my Faith.
Hello, Paulinians!

Why do we need to
understand the significance
of proper handling,
cleaning, and lubrication of
sewing machines?
Proper Handling and
Cleaning of Sewing
Machines
Keep in mind the following tips to make your sewing work
easier:

1. Prepare and set up the proper tools and supplies for cleaning
and maintenance.

2. Always maintain good working posture. Sit on your back

slightly leaning forward. It can prevent body pains after
working on your machine.

3. Thread the sewing machine correctly.

4. Set up the needle according to the model of your
machine. Make sure you put it properly.

5. Set the stitch regulator according to project

specifications and test the stitches for possible
adjustments. Check tension dials and adjust them
according to the project requirement of the stitches.
6. Turn the power off (for motorized/electric
machines) when the sewing machine is not in use.
This will save electricity and avoid possible minor
accidents.

7. Put sewing tools in a cabinet. Dust the sewing

machine then put a little amount of machine oil in the
slots. Then cover with fabric.
Sewing Machine Maintenance Tips

Step 1 - Maintenance

1.Always cover the machine when not in use.

2.Ensure that you are using the appropriate thread and
needle for the fabric.
3.Choose a sewing machine depending on the sewing fabric
that you will use.
4.Ensure that the power source is good enough for the
machine. Always take out the power plug from the outlet
when not in use.
5. Read up on the sewing machine manual from cover to
cover.
6. Before sewing check the bobbin case always every time
– the lint which inevitably lands there can build up fast
and disrupt sewing in a really bad way.
7. Always thread the machine with the presser foot lever in
an up position.
Step 2 – Cleaning your sewing machine

Supplies and Equipment Needed in Cleaning the Machine

Use the following tools and equipment in cleaning a sewing

machine:

● Pie or cake pan for soaking parts in cleaning fluid

• Small/large screwdriver

• Small adjustable wrench

• Cleaning oil
• Cleaning brush
(narrow, nylon)
• Small Crochet Hook • Tweezer

• Cleaning Clothes • Fabric to test stitching

MAINTENANCE OF SEWING MACHINE
Adjusting of Sewing Machine

A. Needle - Proper needle plates should be used to avoid skipped

stitches while doing straight stitches, especially when sewing
synthetic fabrics. Change it every 4 hours of sewing time.

B. Feed dog - The standard setting of a stitch is 10 to 12 stitches per

inch of seam.
C. Presser foot - The presser foot should have enough pressure to
have intact the fabric on the feed dog to attain uniform length of
stitch.

D. Threading the Machine - In threading the machine, guide the

thread from the spool to the needle.

1.Upper
2.Lower
Step 3 – Oiling the sewing machine

Steps in oiling:

1.In the holes designated, and on all parts that rub against or within one
another, squirt a little oil.
2.Run the machine by hand to distribute the oil into all the bearings.
3.Use oil freely because all oil has been removed in the cleaning
process.
4. If there is any wool or felt pads that feed oil to parts, be sure they are
well oiled
5. For later oilings, one drop of oil on each bearing and in each oil
hole is enough. It is a good practice to oil the machine after each
day’s work or after 8 to 10 hours of use. Even if you do not use your
machine often, oil it occasionally to keep the oil from drying and
gumming.

6. If the machine requires a lubricant, lubricate the areas suggested.

Use the lubricant recommended for your machine for the best results.

7. After oiling and lubricating the machine, wipe away excess oil and
reassemble the machine.
Care of the Motor

1.Lubricate the electric motor of your sewing machine according to the

manufacturer’s directions. One or two drops per bearing are sufficient;
over-oiling may ruin the motor.

2. Check to see that all electrical connections to the motor control and
motor are tight. If the cord covering is not in good condition, tape it with
good-quality electrical tape or replace the cord. The belt that connects the
motor to the handwheel should have just enough tension to keep it from
slipping.
3. Take good care of the rubber driving ring or wheel on motors
that drive machines by friction contact with the handwheel. If
this driving ring or wheel has become flat-sided or unevenly
worn, causing excessive vibration, replace it with a new one.

Keep the handwheel clean and dry, and the driving ring adjusted
firmly to the handwheel and in line, so the machine will run
with minimum vibration.
Oiling the Sewing Machine
Common Machine Troubles

There are two classifications of sewing machine troubles, namely:

1.Minor sewing machine troubles - these refer to problems that arise

involving incorrectly attached accessories or supplies, unadjusted
tensions, or that require a little dusting or oiling.

2.Major sewing machine troubles - these involve replacing or removing

damaged spare parts that made the sewing machine, not function.
Common Machine Troubles:

1.Machine runs noisily

2.Machine rotates heavily
3.Needle thread breaks
4.Stitches skip
5.Stitches loop
6.Upper thread breaks
7.Lower or under thread breaks
8.Seams Pucker
9.Fabric does not move
10.Fabric jams in the machine
