• A country rich in history, tradition and culture
• Mexico is made up of 31 states and one federal district.
• It is the third largest country in Latin America and has one of the largest populations—
more than 100 million

Geography:
Mexico is an incredibly diverse place in terms of not only people, but
climates and landscapes as well. In fact, it has the 4th highest biodiversity in
the world, with about 10% of all the world's species living somewhere in
Mexico. Let's take a little tour of Mexico and get to know its geography a
little better. (Focus on Mexico, 2018)

Languages:
Mexican population speaks Spanish, the official national
language.
However, another 60 indigenous languages are still spoken
in Mexico. (History of Mexico, 2005)

• Mexico has a mixed economy
• Their development is occurring at a rapid rate
• Currently, the economy of Mexico is the 15th largest in the world
• Its nominal gross domestic product (GDP) was $1.1 trillion and
GDP per capita was $8,700

Competitors
• The pharmaceutical industry in Mexico is a dynamic market
• Since the late 1990s, the market has grown over 200 percent, and
now accounts for about 37 percent of pharmaceutical sales in Latin
America.
• Bayer, Pfizer, and Merck, are among the leading pharmaceutical
companies.
• Mexico’s retail pharmacy market made up about 1 percent of the
global pharmaceutical market in 2008.
• The pharmaceutical industry in Mexico has a long history. For
example: Sanofi has been present in Mexico for 85 years,
employing around 2,000 people in the country.

Legal Structures
• The Mexican regulatory system is one of the most developed in Latin America
• The Ministry of Health, through the Federal Health Risk Protection Commission is in charge of regulating,
controlling and promoting health safety.
• In recent years the market has been more strictly regulated. In particular, the Mexican Federal Commission for
Protection against Health Risks has recently suspended the registration of more than six thousand drugs. They
suspended these local companies because of their bad quality medicines.
