UK Higher Education System

INTRODUCTION

The UK education system is perhaps one of the most conservative in the world. This is partly due to its
age – the appearance of the first secondary schools in the country and Oxford University dates back to
the 12th century. From those times to this days, discipline and a high level of teaching quality have
remained the main distinguishing features of the British educational system. However, this does not
mean, that it does not undergo any changes. On the contrary, the English education system not only
keeps up with the times, but is often ahead of it: the desire for excellence and reverence for tradition
here coexists perfectly with the latest educational programs and practices.
UK HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM
The UK higher education system is considered one of the most perfect in the world - this is
demonstrated by the world rankings of higher education institutions and the demand for specialists
who have graduated from the universities of Foggy Albion. It is believed that it was British
educational model that formed the basis of the Bologna educational system.
The higher education sector in the country includes:
– classical universities and university colleges, which great attention is paid t research activity;
– polytechnic institutes and colleges of higher education, where they train specialists in applied
specialties.

Training includes 3 levels: bachelor's degree (3 years of study, with the expectation of Scotland), master's degree (1-2 years)
and doctoral study (2-3 years). The academic year consists of 3 trimesters. Classes are held both in classic formats of lectures
and seminars, and in the form of independent work and tutorials (work in small groups with a mentor-tutor).

Students performance is assessed based on the intermediate works (essays, courseworks, projects) and based on the results of
final exams. The system of calculating the average score deoends on the university and can be either a point score or a persentage.
Despite the inherent conservatism of the British, they are constantly working to improve the education system, introducing
innovative teaching methods and actively using modern technologies. Universities have introduced so-called "sandwich courses" –
periods of practicals training that can last up to a year and are considered part of training. But, of course, British higher education
institutions are mainly famous for their strong academic preparation, which has absorbed the best from the centuries - old history
of education in this country.
7 FEATURES OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN
ENGLAND.
1. The first feature that surprises and cannot but delight students from CIS – is opportunity to
independently "reshape" the training program. In English universities, when studying for a specific
specialty, there are a number of basic and a number of additional subjects. Students study the basic
subjects without fail, and they have the right to choose, based on their own ideas, the knowledge of
which subject will be more or less useful to them.

2. Individual approach. Every English student has a personal tutor. The tutor's tasks include helping a
young person study, set and achieve goals, and solve various educational problems.

3. Encouraging self-learning. In most English universities, only an independent thirst for knowledge is
well encouraged. If you want to be a successful student and receive good recommendations from
teachers after graduation, get ready to comprehend the granite of science and outside of university in
your free time: read a lot, draw your own conclusions, think openly.
4. Universities are equipped with excellent libraries. Since the English education system is more
designed for self-study, every university in the country has luxurious libraries and knowledge based
that delight visiting foreign students.

5. Attention to foreign students. Foreign applicants are provided with dormitories, and enrolling in a
university, young people have the opportunity to improve their English level in specially organised
courses for foreigners.

6. Obtaining a higher education in England is an excellent to stay here for permanent residence, since
UK employers are happy to hire talented young people with high scores in professional subjects.

7. Education in English universities and recruitment of applicants for certain specialties is carried out
strictly taking into account statistics and market needs. Blind training in the UK is something out of
the ordinary, which is why graduates from England, when receiving a diploma, feel like they are
needed specialties in their country.
By choosing the United Kingdom as a place to receive secondary and higher education, you will ensure
a comfortable future for your children, because:
1. The education system in England itself is structured in such a way that it allows not only subjects of the Queen of England, but also foreign
students of various levels of training to gain modern knowledge.
2. Diploma from British educational institutions are highly rated throughout the world being a kind of pass both for further education and
for successful work.
3. Great Britain is a recognized financial center; the country consistently ranks among the top 10 strongest economies on the planet. English
business eagerly accepts talented graduates for internships and provides them with jobs with competitive wages.

4. We cannot ignore the quality of education received in the UK. The system successfully combines centuries – old traditions and modernity.
The knowledge gained is easily applied in practice and helps a person starting an independent life, step by step to build a brilliant career in
his chosen field.
5. Many universities in the British Isles provide their students not only with quality education, but also with useful connections. Graduates
often maintain friendly relationship for many years, and in some cases even from Professional communities and "dictate" the agenda in their
field of knowledge.
