WHEN HUMANITY
AND TECHNOLOGY
CROSS
TECHNOLOG
Techne - art Y
Logos - word
- a discourse on art
The word technology was only used to talk about arts, specifically applied arts. As
technology progress, the concept started to have a wider range of meanings where art is
no longer the only topic included. Machines and tool concepts were also attached to the
word “technology” which is the more popular sense of the concept nowadays.
TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT
IN SOCIETY
Each person in society is directly or indirectly affected by technology whether he
wills it or not. Most people survive in everyday life because of technological
advancement available in the masses. Even though some claim that their lives are
not greatly affected by technology, it can be denied the fact that technology is
already an inevitable part of society.
IS IT NECESSITY OR WANT?
Technology has revolutionized life by making tasks easier and providing numerous
benefits, including convenience and pleasure. However, it has also led to criticisms and
backlash, with ethical dilemmas surrounding the use of technological devices and their
impact on humanity. Despite these challenges, technological advancements continue to
advance, making them essential for human activities and reducing the need for luxury.
TELEVISION SETS, MOBILE PHONES,
COMPUTERS, AND HUMANITY
• A number of technological devises can be easily found inside the home, the most
accessible place to anyone
• It can also be easily inferred that these technological devices are some of the
most popular and most commonly used types of devices across all age groups
• People all over the world use these technologies every day to accomplish
different task
TELEVISION
SETS
• According to Kantar Media, in the philippines, 92% urban homes and 70% of rural
homes own atleast one television set.

• In addition to this, Kantar Media also reported that in the Philippines, the current
count of households with television set already reached 15.135 million (Noda,
2012).
In the 1800s a German student
named Paul Gottlieb Nipkow was
successfully send images through
wires with the aid of a rotating metal
disk and is called Electric Telescope.
The invention has 18 lines of
resolution.
In 1907, Alan Archibald Campbell –
Swinton, an English scientist, and Boris
Rosing, a Russian scientist, created a new
system of television by using a cathode ray
tube in addition to the mechanical scanner
system. (this success story gave rises to two
types of television systems namely,
mechanical and electronic television)

• These experiments inspired other scientists to continue improving the previous

inventions which led to the modern television people now have.
MOBILE
PHONES
Martin Cooper, a Motorola engineer, made the
first mobile phone call in April 3, 1973 using a
1.1 kg phone with a 30-minute conversation time,
but charging took ten hours. The Motorola
DynaTAC 8000x was released in 1983.
• Filipinos love to use their mobile phones anytime, anywhere not only
forcommunication purposes but for different purposes. More than half of
theFilipino population owns at least one mobile phone regardless of type
• In 2020, 67% of Filipinos own a mobile phone, with one in every three
Filipinos unable to live without one in 2012. In 2012, 30% of the urban
population considered mobile phones a necessity in life
Charles Babbage, a 19th-century English
and Mathematics professor, developed the
Analytical Engine, which has been the
foundation for computers, with newer,
better-equipped versions introduced each
generation.
In April 1981, the first true portable
computer was released and is called
Osborne I. The evolution of laptops
continued until the present time where
various designs and models are already
available.
• Filipino families struggle to afford computers or laptops, despite having
televisions and mobile phones. Manufacturers' profits come from offices,
businesses, or schools. In 2010, manufacturing firms produced 3.6 million
worth of electronic components, with semiconductor devices accounting for
5.4% of total value.
• A typical home consists of at least four gadgets: a mobile phone (89%), a
smartphone (53%), a tablet (14%), and a computer (12%).
HERE ARE SOME FACTS ABOUT FILIPINOS

• Internet usage of Filipinos in front of desktop or laptop computer clock in at 5 hours and 4
minutes daily

these
76 million, 75 million are on Facebook

ROLES PLAYED BY THESE
TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS
Television sets, mobile phones, and computers or laptops all have different
functions and roles played in the lives of people. These roles are essential
especially for Filipinos who developed a strong inclination toward
technology and its products.
ETHICAL DILEMMA FACED BY THE
TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT
Even though technological devices are useful and beneficial, there are still dilemmas
faced by these so called “necessities”

• Parents concern for their children well – being

Parents argue that excessive use of technology leads to lazy and unhealthy children, as
they lack productivity, exercise, and physical activity. Some may develop sickness and
alienate themselves from others. While technology may seem to bring people closer, it
may not always be the case in real life.
2. Moral Dilemma
Children are exposed to harmful content on devices like television, mobile phones, and
computers, making them vulnerable to character change. Responsibility for devices lies
with their creators and users. Scientists should inform the public about their devices'
dangers and promote responsible usage. Adults who allow children access should be held
accountable for their actions.
