EXPLAI
EXPLAIN
How does sound travel to
your ears?
Interactive
The sounds enter as sound waves in the outer ear
through the ear canal. When it travel in the ear canal
and hit the ear drum, the ear drum creates vibrations.
EXPLAIN
These vibrations are send to the three tiny bones in the
middle ear – malleus, incus and stapes. These three
bones increase the sound vibrations and send them to
the cochlea. The fluid inside the cochlea will ripple
because of these vibrations causing it to form a wave
form traveling along basilar membrane. Now the hair
cells in the basilar membrane will ride this wave. This
cells will carry the message to the auditory nerve that
is connected to the brain.
