SLOVIN’S FORMULA

WHAT IS A SLOVIN’S FORMULA?

SLOVIN’S FORMULA

• Slovin’s formula is a tool to determine the sample size of a population that must be
taken for a specific study.

• In statistics, Slovin’s formula is used to calculate the minimum

sample sized needed to estimate a statistic based on an
acceptable margin of error.
• WHAT IS THE FORMULA?

n = number of samples
n= N = total population
= margin of error / error
of tolerance (level)
WHAT IS TOLERANCE LEVEL

• Error of tolerance is the level of confidence that the indicated

data is reflective of the entire population.
•How do you compute for the sample
size?
• Determine the error of tolerance
• Identify the population size
• Compute for the sample size
SAMPLE COMPUTATION

• Determine the error of tolerance

5% or 0.05
• Identify the sample size
186 grade 11 students
• Compute for the sample population
• n = number of samples ?
• N = total population 186
• = error of tolerance 0.05
• A students wants to conduct a research in his school. if the school has a total number of
students of 4,800. solve for the sample size needed using:
• 5% margin of error
• 3 % margin of error
• 2 % margin of error
• 390
• 902
• 3243
