Globalization
 Is the process of interaction and integration among
people, companies, and government worldwide.
 Is the integration of national economies through trade,
investment, capital flow, labor migration, and technology.
 Is the free movements of goods, services and people
across the world in seamless and integrated manner.
 Enables countries to liberalize their import protocols and
welcome foreign investment into sectors that are the
mainstays of it’s economy.
 Globalization is the word used to describe the growing
interdependence of the world's economies, cultures, and
populations, brought about by cross-border trade in
goods and services, technology, and flows of investment,
people, and information
 Globalization, or globalisation, is the process of
interaction and integration among people, companies,
and governments worldwide. Globalization has
accelerated since the 18th century due to advances in
transportation and communication technology.
Types of Globalization
Economic: Countries that trade with many others
and have few trade barriers are economically
globalized.
Social: A measure of how easily information and ideas
pass between people in their own country and
between different countries (includes access to
internet and social media networks).
Political: The amount of political co-operation there
is between countries.
What is Global Literacy?
Global Literacy aims to address issues
of globalization, racism, diversity and social justice
(Guo, 2014). It requires awareness and action,
consistent with a broad understanding of humanity,
the planet, and the impact of human decision on both.
Global Literacy also aims to empower students with
knowledge and take action to make a positive impact
in the world and their local community (Guo, 2014).
Multi-Culturalism
As a descriptive term it refers to cultural diversity where
two or more groups with distinctive beliefs/cultures exist in
a society.
It can also refer to government policy as a formal
recognition of the cultural distinctiveness of particular
groups.
It implies a positive endorsement of cultural diversity.
Multiculturalism is a form of identity politics to advance the
interests of particular groups in the face of perceived or
actual injustice.
It seeks to raise awareness via stressing a collective identity
and common experience.
Multicultural Literacy consists of the skills and
ability to identify the creators of knowledge and their
interests (Banks, 1996), to uncover the assumptions of
knowledge, to view knowledge from diverse ethnic and
cultural perspective, and to use knowledge to guided
action that will create a humane and just world (Boutte,
2008).
Eight attributes of 21st Century Education
Integrated and interdisciplinary- this critical
attributes implies the need to review the curriculum
and create strategies infusing different subjects toward
enhancing the learning experiences of students.
Technologies and multimedia- it implies a need to
acquire and use computers and multimedia equipment
and the design of a technology plan to enhance
learning as it best.
Global classrooms-implies the need to include
current global issues/concerns, such as peace and
respect.
Creating/adapting to constant personal and
social change and lifelong learning- this means
that teacher should facilitate students’ learning even
beyond academics.
Student-centered-education in the 21st century is
focused on students as learners while addressing their
needs .
21st century skills-it implies that teacher should
possess skills first before their students.
Project based and research design- this implies the
need for knowledge and skills in research, such as self-
directed activities, learning projects.
Relevant, rigorous and real world-education in the
21st century is meaningful as it connects to real-life
experiences of learners.
