Introduction

Socialization:
It is process of learning to adjust man in society. Man is to live in various social
group and different social situations. He is to learn techniques of life to adjust
himself new mode of life in society. This learning of techniques of social life is
called Socialization. Learning of different behaviors in different social situations is
called socialization.
Definition:

 Socialization:

“It is process of learning, how to fit in society. It involves learning of all the rules,
norms, values, culture of society”.
Peter Woesely: “It is process of transmission of culture, the process whereby men
learn all the rules and practices of social life”.
Types of Socialization

 Primary Socialization:
It is most essential and fundamental types of socialization. It start from
Family. It takes place in the early years of new baby. At this stage
child learn the language, norm, values, culture, rules and regulation of
society.
 Secondary Socialization:
It is that socialization when a child learn the norms, values, believes,
attitudes of their culture through outside of the Family, such as
teachers, friends, media etc.
Types of Socialization:
 Anticipatory Socialization:
It is that socialization when a child prepare for future role practices through
complete process, such as new doctors, new teachers, new lawyer etc.
 Developmental Socialization:
It is that socialization when a child develop social skills and knowledge such as
communication skills, new jobs etc.
 Resocialization:

It is the process of learning when a child replaced old behaviors by new ones such
as criminal rehabilitation, new norms, new culture etc.
Agents of Socialization:

 Family:

During the socialization process, the family is considered the most significant.
The child learn from family all basic learning.
 Peer or agemates:

It is that sources of socialization when the child learn from the agemates in schools, in
playground and in street.
Agents of Socialization:

 Social institutions:
It is that sources of socialization when the child learn from different social
institutions. Such as family, madras, markets, fairs
 Mass media:
It is that agent of socialization when the child learn culture, norms values from
media.
 Community:

This is largest agency of child socialization. Many agencies are working for the
people. Which educates its members informally.
Functions of Socialization

 Socialization covert human being to social being


 Personality development
 To become disciplined
 To perform different roles
 provides knowledge and skills
 Transmits culture from one generation to other generation
