Cardiac Arrhythmia
CARDIAC ARRYTHMIA OCCURS WHEN THE HEART BEATS IS AT AN
ABNORMAL RATE, WHETHER IT IS TOO FAST OR TOO SLOW. THE
HEART IS A MUSCLE THAT PUMPS BLOOD THROUGH THE BODY, AND
IT NEEDS TO BEAT AT A STEADY RHYTHM TO WORK PROPERLY. BUT
SOMETIMES, DUE TO VARIOUS REASONS LIKE STRESS, ANXIETY,
LIFESTYLE FACTORS, AGE, AND MEDICAL CONDITIONS, THE HEART
SKIPS BEATS OR BEATS FASTER OR SLOWER THAN NORMAL. THIS
CREATES AN IMBALANCE IN THE BLOOD FLOW, LEADING TO
SYMPTOMS LIKE FATIGUE, SHORTNESS OF BREATH, CHEST PAIN,
PALPITATIONS, DIZZINESS OR FAINTING.
How can we detect the Cardiac Arrhythmia?
Cardiac arrythmia can be detected using several methods including:
• Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a medical test that uses electrodes to record the electrical activity of
the heart. It can help detect heart arrythmia and many other heart conditions.
• Holter monitor is a portable device that continuously records the heart's electrical activity for 24 to
48 hours. The device is worn as a patch on the chest, and it can help detect less frequent
arrythmias.
• Stress test is a test that helps assess the heart's response to exercise, and it can be used to diagnose
arrythmias.
• Echocardiogram is an ultrasound test that uses sound waves to create images of the heart. It can
show the structure, function, and blood flow of the heart, and it can help diagnose heart conditions
including arrythmias.

Cardiac arrythmia can be prevented by making lifestyle changes and managing certain
risk factors, such as:
1. Living a healthy lifestyle: Regular exercise, eating a healthy diet, maintaining a healthy
weight, and avoiding smoking or excessive drinking can all help reduce your risk of
arrythmia and other heart conditions.
2. Controlling high blood pressure: High blood pressure is a major risk factor for arrythmia.
Follow your healthcare provider's guidance for managing high blood pressure through
lifestyle changes, such as weight loss and diet, and taking medication as prescribed.
4. Managing heart conditions: If you have a history of heart disease or other heart
conditions, it's important to regularly see your healthcare provider and follow their guidance
for managing your condition.
