Introduction
As it is my first time to homeschool using the Charlotte
Mason method, I have done some research on it and have
produced a presentation to introduce it to anyone else who is
interested in this unique homeschooling style. I hope you
enjoy!

Who is Charlotte Mason?
Charlotte Maria Shaw Mason was a British educator who greatly
contributed to education with her principles and beliefs. She co-founded
the PNEU (Parents’ National Education Union), and had written several
books on geography, and her beliefs for education. Her philosophy on
education became well-known and influenced many people that even a
century later, in the present time, we still use this method in our modern
homeschooling.

Distinctive
The Charlotte Mason Method is formed from the belief that children are
people – individuals, human beings, distinct from other creatures; instead
of blank slates – as commonly taught in the 1800s and perhaps even deep
into the 1900s, and the job of a parent or teacher is to allow them to learn
and savor their discoveries.

What is a

B
Living Book?
A living book is a book that includes
the opinions and thoughts of the
author. It is meant to draw the readers
in and gain their interest towards the
subject that is being written. Unlike
regular textbooks, it is a more
intimate form of writing, and is also a
beneficial variation of education.

What is

N
Narration?
Narration is a practice in the Charlotte
Mason Method that involves the student
telling a story that they recently read or
heard in their own words. Being a
useful skill that can polish the young
person's memory and recital skills, and
can also somewhat build confidence in
their own way of speaking, further
establishing their own way of
thinking/writing/speaking in the
Charlotte Mason Education process. 10
What is Picture

P
Study?
Picture study is a practice where the student
will view and examine a photo until they can
envision the image and details in their mind.
They will then describe the art piece with it
out of sight, with varying amounts of details,
then check the photo again for accuracy. This
activity may greatly improve on the student's
memorization ability and give them a good
chance to practice on the words in their
vocabulary that they wouldn't use regularly.

Artwork
I think that making art is an
enjoyable task, that is able to
communicate emotion, thoughts, a
message to other people. Different
art styles can show the preferences
of a person, or an individual's
culture and ability in art itself. Art is
a way for people to tell a narrative
to the reader and immerse viewers
more into the story you're telling. It
is a delicate practice that is difficult
to learn but can greatly improve
with simple regular sketches.
