The Golden City

Design presentation | January 2021 SPECTRE ARCHITECTS

The Golden City
The Golden City Jaisalmer is quintessential Rajasthan, with
all the amorousness of sand dunes, fortified cities and camel
caravans. The Ramada experience must be a destination in
itself for the tourist.

The whole Jaisalmer looks and feels like straight from a tale
in Arabian Nights. The western part of the city is covered by
the Thar desert which stretches into the Pakistan border and is
a major tourist attraction.

The interiors of the property must celebrate the character of

the city for a memorable holiday experience. The intention is
to create a perfect amalgamation of spatial contemporary
aesthetics and modern design.

The experiential design, must leave the tourist with a

contemporary aspect of the traditional Asian culture.

D esign Essence
The term ‘Modern-Contemporary’ in all its sense
is an amalgamation of design elements, concepts
and theories of the past (20 th century) and the
present.

The design strongly resonates with a neutral

earthy palette of natural textures, subtle colors
and fine grains of the modern times.

The confident primary red color is employed to

enliven the interiors without adding busyness
and the accent use of metal textures brings in the
contemporary era thereby remaining true to the
principle of minimalism.

The simplicity of crisp and clear lines in the

design ensures that the essence of the room is
clutter free while the vast glazing allow the
natural light to flow into the heart of the room.

comfort which is ideal for a hotel
guest room.

Light colours are perceived as

brighter & more spacious.

Thin, delicate moldings bring a

sense of sophistication to walls,
giving the whole surface an
embellished look. The effect here
is subtle & is well-suited to a
more classical room design.

#Classic Elegance
The exterior of the hotel has set the
tone for the interior arches creating
a rhythmic effect of the architectural
elements that have now found their
space in the calmness of the
interiors.

A neutral color palette of the earth

tones along with natural textures
and rich wood grains has been used
keeping in mind the luxury,
sophistication and timelessness of
the brand.

Accents of the red hue signature to

Ramada add a charismatic touch
and counteracts the sense of
emptiness that a bare space can
sometimes evoke.

Bling of sheen is contributed by the

champagne gold metal delicately
used in the design. The beautiful
texture not only adds glam but also
resonates with the luxury experience
of ones stay at the property.

A play of various textiles juxtaposed
together adds a dramatic character
of the contemporary era to the room.

The arch design is an extended

version of the façade which makes
space of itself in the nonchalant
interior.

All free standing tables have been

designed to have a sleek
understructure respecting the
minimalist look that modern-
contemporary interiors boast of. The
top base however has been designed
to express the heritage via smaller
details in the furniture.

Emphasis has been laid on elements

that encourage a horizontal eye
movement of the guest making the
room appear more spacious.

The vestibule has been richly

ornamented with wooden and stone
textures.

The extensive use of medium – dark

tone wood is balanced by the light
colored stone that reflects daylight
across its polished surfaces.

The placement of stone on all

surfaces has been designed in such a
manner that when looked at it from
top view, nothing but the beautiful
white Indian marble with in-lay
works of Jaisalmer stone is visible.

The same Jaisalmer stone also acted

as a source of inspiration for the
designing of the attached toilet.

#Dynamic Breakout

The unexpected shift of tints and shades

inspired by the evening sky of the Golden
City creates a dramatic tension breaking
the subtle classicism of the room décor.

Despite the dynamic color breakout the

continuity of the arched elements
accompanied by the luxe of gold faucets
forces the space to create a distant
romantic relationship with the room
aesthetics.

Adding to the love story are the balancing

tones of browns and biscuits on the vanity
and bathing tiles.
