Godle & Gabriella
Ren Zhengfei
Ren Zhengfei was born in China, Guizhou Province on October 25, 1944.
He spent his primary and junior high school years in the mountain village
near his home.
In 1987, Ren Zhengfei and his partners founded Shenzhen Huawei
Technologies Co., LTD., which means “Connect China and make a
difference.” After the establishment of the company, his friends
recommended him to make tombstones to make money, since it will have
high profits, but Ren Zhengfei thought tombstones were not a long-term
solution, so he gave up.

He has been president of Huawei since 1988

Forbes magazine ranks it third on its list of China's 50 richest

people. His personal fortune is estimated at $500 million in 2000.

Ren's own military experience shaped Huawei's early corporate

culture and management structure. It emphasized clear-cut goals,
hard-and-fast rules, employee dedication and absolute
obedience. At the same time, the company acknowledged the
contributions of dedicated employees by remunerating them
generously. Thus he is a kind of democratic leadership.
