INTROD
UCTION
A control system is a system in which an input is given to the
system and the output of the system is controlled by the help of
some control elements.

OPEN LOOP
CONTROL SYSTEM
An open loop control system is the one in which the output signal is not fed back to the input
of the system. Therefore, an open loop control system is also referred to as a non-feedback
control system.
CLOSED LOOP
CONTROL
SYSTEM
A closed loop control system is the one in which the output signal is fed-back to the input of
the system. Therefore, in a closed loop control system, the control action is a function of
desired output signal.

EXAMPLES:

*Open-loop Control System:*
- A washing machine with a timer setting where the machine runs for a fixed duration
regardless of the washing status.

1 - A toaster with a timer setting where it operates for a fixed time regardless of the actual
temperature of the toast.

*Closed-loop Control System:*
- A thermostat regulating the temperature of a room by turning the heating system on and

2
off based on the current temperature.
- An autopilot system in an aircraft that continuously adjusts the control surfaces to
maintain the desired flight path.
APPLICATIONS OF
CONTROL SYSTEMS
IN ROBOTICS
Control systems are used in a wide range of robotic applications, from
manufacturing and assembly to healthcare and space exploration. In
manufacturing, control systems help regulate the movements of robotic
arms and tools.
In healthcare, control systems are used to operate surgical robots with
precision and accuracy. In space exploration, control systems help
regulate the movements of rovers and other robotic vehicles.
CONCLUSION
Control systems are a critical component of robotics, helping to ensure precision and
accuracy in robotic movements. They are essential for a wide range of applications,
from manufacturing and healthcare to space exploration. While there are challenges
involved in programming and adjusting control systems, they are becoming more
advanced and are helping to drive innovation in the field of robotics.
