IDEA-27: SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

PROBLEM:
• Solid wastes result in air pollution, water pollution, and soil pollution.
• Solid wastes also cause many diseases as these wastes are a breeding
place for many vectors.
• Substances like polythene bags block drain pipes thereby paralyzing the
whole drainage system.
• Stray animals ingest some harmful substances along with food from waste,
which may result in many diseases and ultimately death of these animals,
and further increase solid waste.
SOLUTION:
• Solid-waste management, the collecting, treating, and disposing of solid
material that is discarded because it has served its purpose or is no longer
useful.
• Take reusable bags to the grocery store instead of single-use plastic bags.
Select items with limited or no packaging. Use a refillable container for
water in place of bottled water. Reduce "junk mail".
