Luke 6:12-16
The Twelve Apostles

12
One of those days Jesus went out to a
mountainside to pray, and spent the night
praying to God. 13 When morning came, he called
his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom
he also designated apostles: 14 Simon (whom he
named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John,
Philip,Bartholomew, 15 Matthew, Thomas, James son
of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the
Zealot, 16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot,
who became a traitor.
"For many are
called, but
few are
chosen.“ Mt. 22:14
WHY YOU LISTENED
TO JESUS?
MISSION
COMMITMENT
(video)
What struck and what
commitment means for
you?
COMMITMENT- is defined as a
willingness to give one’s time and
energy to something that one
believes in, or a promise or firm
decision to do something or be
loyal, or an attitude to work very
hard to do or support something.
John 21:15-17
15When they had finished eating, Jesus asked Simon
Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love Me more than
these?” “Yes, Lord,” he answered, “You know I love
You.” Jesus replied, “Feed My lambs.” 16Jesus
asked a second time, “Simon son of John, do you love
Me?” “Yes, Lord, he answered, “You know I
love You.” Jesus told him, “Shepherd My sheep.”
17Jesus asked a third time, “Simon son of John, do
you love Me?” Peter was deeply hurt that Jesus had
asked him a third time, “Do you love Me?” “Lord, You
know all things,” he replied. “You know I love You.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.…
“ ‘For God so loved
the world that he gave
his only Son, that
whoever believes in
him should not perish
but have eternal life’ ”
(John 3:16).
What made this commitment
Christian?
Because it was inspired
by LOVE, the love
defined by Jesus: “
‘Greater love has no
man that this, that a
man lay down his life
for his friends’ ” (John
15:13).
1. Being a slave to Christ.

• 2 Peter 1:1), "Jude, a servant of

Jesus Christ" (Jude 1:1). John
calls himself a servant of Jesus
Christ (Revelation 1:1). (Paul also
calls himself "a prisoner [or
captive] of Jesus Christ" in
Philemon 1
Jesus said, "No servant can serve two
masters. Either he will hate the one and
love the other, or he will be devoted to
the one and despise the other. You
cannot serve both God and Money
2. Obeying God.
"Not every one who says to me 'Lord,
Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven,
but only he who does the will of my
Father who is in heaven" (Matthew
7:21). "This is love for God: to obey his
commands" (1 John 5:3).
3. Giving up our Agendas.
He said, "the Son can do nothing by
himself" (John 5:19). He said, "I always
do what pleases him" (John 8:29). And
then he said that "Anyone who has faith
in me will do what I have been doing"
(John 14:12).
I think this means that those who have
faith in Jesus should be doing only what
they see the Father doing and saying
what they hear the Father saying. We
should be doing the Father's work, doing
what pleases the Father. Jesus had no
agenda of his own. His agenda was to do
the Father's will.
• to give our whole lives to him, to
be totally committed to him in all
our ways.
• totally committed life that we best
declare God's worthiness.
4. Be united with God.
"I pray also for those who will believe me
through [the disciples'] message, that all of
them may be one, Father, just as you are in
me and I in you. May they also be in us so that
the world may believe that you have sent me.
I have given them the glory that you gave me,
that they may be one as we are one, I in them
and you in me. May they be brought to
complete unity to let the world know that you
sent me, and have loved them even as you
have loved me" (John 17:20-23).
"Christ in you, the hope of
glory" (Colossians 1:27). Paul
wrote, "I have been crucified
with Christ and I no longer live,
but Christ lives in me"
(Galatians 2:19).
God wants us to commit
ourselves totally to him,
holding nothing back.

SERVING TO HIM
Give him all our
agendas, hopes, plans,
achievements, desires,
thoughts, habits,
personality traits.
Do not be afraid to Commit
yourselves to Him, through Service
