Abstract
Therapeutic plants are commonly used for food, flavoring, medicine or fragrant. Some most
important therapeutic plants are Pathor kuchi (Kalanchoe pinnata), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula),
Thankuni (Centella asiatica), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Tulsi (Ocimum tenniflorum), Lemon
grass and Aloe vera, Vasaka (Adhatoda vasica). On the other hand most of the tribal people still
depend on local medicinal plants for the treatment of different diseases using the knowledge of
herbal treatment they have inherited from their forefathers. The demand of therapeutic plants as raw
material for pharmaceutical industry is increasing in our country like all over the world. This plants
have been used to treat diseases since ancient times but day by day viruses can be transmitted by
insects feeding on plant sap or mechanically in sap that is spread by hand or grafting tools. So, aim
to study the implementation, design and evaluate by using Image segmentation with for the
detection of herbal leaves disease. The methods studies are for increasing throughput and reduction
subjective arising from human experts in detecting the leaf disease.
1. How effective are advanced image processing techniques in detecting various types of leaf
diseases in therapeutic plants?
2. What are the specific characteristics of medicinal plant leaf diseases that can be accurately
identified using image analysis and machine learning algorithms
?
3. How does the integration of spectral imaging technology contribute to the early detection
and differentiation of leaf diseases in medicinal plants?
4. What is the comparative analysis between manual diagnosis by experts and automated
disease detection systems for medicinal plant leaves in terms of accuracy and efficiency?
1. Identification and Characterization of therapeutic Plant Leaf Diseases: To identify, classify, and
characterize diseases that affect therapeutic plants, particularly focusing on their symptoms, causes.
2. Development: To explore and develop effective disease management and control strategies for preserving
the health and productivity of medicinal plants.
3. Conservation: To study the impact of diseases on the biodiversity and conservation status of therapeutic
plant species.
4. Development of Diagnostic Tools: To create diagnostic tools and methods for early disease detection in
medicinal plants to facilitate timely intervention.
5. Traditional Medicine and Healthcare System: To explore the impact of plant diseases on traditional
medicine and healthcare systems on medicinal plants.
6. Knowledge Dissemination and Education: To share research findings with local communities, healthcare
practitioners, and policy makers.
7. Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: To foster collaboration with researchers, botanists, ethno-botanists,
and other stakeholders interested in therapeutic plant research.
Literature Review
(1) Ghaiwat et al. presents survey on different classification techniques that can be used for plant leaf disease
classification. For given test example, k-nearest-neighbor method is seems to be suitable as well as simplest
of all algorithms for class prediction. Accuracy rate is 89.2%.
Goals: Review of ANN, SVM, PNN, SELF ORG MAPS and fuzzy logic.
Future perspective: In neural network it’s difficult to understand structure of algorithm and to determine
optimal parameters when training data is not linearly separable.
(2) Anand H. Kulkarni et al presents a methodology for early and accurately plant diseases detection, using
artificial neural network (ANN) and diverse image processing techniques.
Recognition rate of up to 91%.
Goals: Gabor filters for feature extraction and ANN classifier for classification.
Future perspective: Recognition rate can be increased.
(3) According to Sabah Bashir et al, disease detection in Malus domestica through an effective method like
K-mean clustering, texture and color analysis.
Goals: Texture segmentation by co-occurrence matrix method and K-means clustering technique.
Future perspective: Bayes classifier, K-means clustering and principal component classifier can be used to
classify various plant diseases.
Research Gap
Identify current techniques: Analyze the current techniques and methodologies used for detecting leaf
diseases in therapeutic plants. Look for the limitations or drawbacks associated with these methods.
Technology advancements: Explore if there have been any recent advancements in imaging technologies,
machine learning, or artificial intelligence that could potentially improve the accuracy and efficiency of
disease detection in medicinal plant leaves.
Therapeutic plant diversity: Consider the wide variety of therapeutic plants and their specific leaf disease
patterns. Identify if there are gaps in the detection methods for different types of medicinal plants,
particularly those that have unique leaf characteristics.
Data availability: Look into the availability of datasets related to leaf diseases in therapeutic plants. Identify
if there is a lack of standardized datasets that can be used for training and testing various disease detection
models.
Integration of field studies: Assess the integration of field studies with technological approaches. Investigate
if there is a need for more field-based research to validate the accuracy and practicality of the disease
detection methods in real-world settings.
Proposed Methodology
Therapeutic Plant leaf categorization, segmentation, and quality assessment are the focus of many researches.
Below figure represents therapeutic plant leaf disease recognition which entails a few basic image processing
stages to identify and classify plant. This approach includes the phases image processing, image segmentation,
component extraction, and classification.

Conclusion and Future Work
This Study provides the survey of different techniques for leaf disease detection. There is main
characteristics of disease detection are speed and accuracy. Hence there is working on development of
automatic, efficient, fast and accurate which is use for detection disease on unhealthy leaf. Therapeutic
Plants disease detection research and applications is developing rapidly, still needed an application that
works effectively for farmer of the nation of any region. In future research, we will use the neural
network to generate zero initial set corresponding to different leaves, which will increase the end of
calculation limit for the iterative process of some algorithm, speed up the training speed, and end the
iteration ahead of time. As per the above stated study, the expected future of the research may be as
follows: (i) An improved plant disease prediction system will be introduced with the help of image,
processing techniques. (ii) The existing prediction models will be compared with the newly developed
one. The comparison between these models will be analyzed on behalf of effectiveness.
The future work mainly concerns with the large database and advance feature of color extraction that
contains a better result of detection. Another work concerns with research work in a particular field with
advance features and technology.
