 Definition of Terms

• It will help clarify the purpose and direction of the

study being conducted.
• The important terms used in the study must be defined
clearly.
 Ways of Defining Terms
1. Conceptual Definition – a definition from books or
dictionaries
2. Operational Definition – a definition based from how it
is used on the study
a. Experimental Operational Definition – describes
how a term’s reference is manipulated/ how it operates
b. Measured Operational Definition – describes how
referents of a term are measured

Key Terms Conceptual Definition
Lemongrass A grass (Cymbopogon citratus) of robust
habit native to southern India and
Ceylon that is grown in tropical regions
for its lemon-scented foliage used as a
seasoning and source of of an aromatic
essential oil
Chocolate Cake A cake flavoured with melted chocolate,
cocoa powder or both.
Operational Definition
A grass abundant in almost every
household which is used as flavouring
for food products.
Experimental: A cake which is made
by combining all ingredients, putting
into a cake tin and baking in an oven.
Measured: A cake flavoured with
chocolate, which is moist, sweet and
brownish in color.

Acceptability. It refers to the acceptability of the lemonade juice in terms of aroma, color and taste.

Aroma. It is the attribute of the product that stimulates the sense of smell of the juice.

Color. It is the outcome of the juice after mixing all the ingredients.

Lagundi. This is a herbal plant with pointed green leaves having five leaflets set like a hand which is
abundant in the locality and is known to cure cough.

Lemonade. It is a drink made from lemon juice and sweetened water.

Lemongrass. It is a tall, stalky plant with a fresh, lemony aroma and a citrus flavour which is abundant in the
locality with many health benefits.

Lemongrass Lemonade. It is a juice produce by combining lemongrass and lemon together.

Taste. It is one of the senses that perceive and recognize the flavor of the juice.
