Idea and Structure of League of Nations

 The idea of League of Nations was proposed by British foreign


secretary Edward Grey and U.S President Woodrow Wilson in 1920
and its first action was ratification of treaty of Versailles.

 Structure
Secretariat Council Assembly Agencies Commissions

 Council met average five times in a year.


 Each member was represented and had one vote in assembly
Causes of Failure
 The league of nations is considered failed organization in
its mission of achieving disarmament, prevention of war
and settle disputes.
 The Major causes of failure are:
 Lack of Armed Forces
 Depend on World Powers to enforce it’s resolutions
 Reluctant Behavior of Powers to enforce manifesto of
league
 Major Failures
 Economic sanctions imposed on Italy as result of Italy
invading Ethiopia
 Inaction in Spanish Civil war
