INTRODUCTION
• WHAT IS COMPUTER?
A computer is an electrical machine that processes data, converting it into
information that is useful to people. Any computer regardless of its type is controlled
by programmed instructions, which give the machine a purpose and tell it what to
do.

USE OF COMPUTER IN
RESEARCH
• A computer has become an important and crucial part of every type of research it
helps the research in identifying the relevant sources of information through the
internet. In addition, the computer assists in maintaining record of data and
processing it.
• It created new possibilities for data processing in scientific and social scientific
research, generating significant knowledge and information.

OF COMPUTER IN RESEARCH
A. Data Analysis: Computers enable researchers to analyze large
datasets, identify patterns, and draw meaningful conclusions.
Statistical software and programming languages like R and Python are
commonly used for data analysis.
B. Simulation and Modeling: Researchers can use computer
simulations and modeling to study complex systems and phenomena.
This allows them to test hypotheses, make predictions, and gain
insights that may not be possible through traditional methods.

C. Data Collection and Storage: Computers facilitate the collection,

organization, and storage of research data. Online surveys, electronic
data capture systems, and databases help streamline the data
collection process and ensure data integrity.
D. Literature Review: Computers make it easier to access and search
through vast amounts of literature. Online databases, digital
libraries, and search engines provide researchers with quick
access to relevant articles and publications.
E. Collaboration and Communication: Computers enable researchers
to collaborate with colleagues worldwide. Online platforms, email,
and video conferencing tools facilitate communication, data
sharing, and collaborative research projects.

F. Visualization: Computers allow researchers to visualize

data in various formats, such as graphs, charts, and
interactive visualizations. This helps in presenting research
findings effectively and enhancing understanding.
G. Efficiency and Speed: The use of computers significantly
speeds up research processes, from data analysis to
literature review. Tasks that used to take weeks or months
can now be completed in a fraction of the time.

USE OF COMPUTER IN
NURSING PRACTICE
• Computers play a crucial role in nursing practice, enhancing efficiency
and improving patient care. Here are some ways computers are used in
nursing:
A. Electronic Health Records (EHR): Nurses use computers to access
and update patient records, including medical history, medications,
lab results, and treatment plans. EHR systems improve accuracy,
streamline documentation, and support interdisciplinary
communication.

B. Medication Management: Computerized systems help nurses with

medication administration, including barcode scanning to ensure the
right medication is given to the right patient. These systems also
provide alerts for allergies, drug interactions, and dosage calculations.
C. Clinical Decision Support: Nurses can access evidence-based
guidelines and resources through computer systems, aiding in clinical
decision-making. This helps ensure that nursing interventions align
with best practices and promote patient safety.
D. Patient Monitoring: Computers are used in various monitoring
systems, such as electronic vital sign monitors and bedside devices.
These systems continuously track and display patient data, allowing
nurses to detect changes and intervene promptly.

E. Telehealth and Telemedicine: With the use of computers, nurses can

provide remote patient monitoring, virtual consultations, and telehealth
services. This enhances access to care, especially in rural or
underserved areas.
F. Education and Training: Computers are utilized for nursing education
and training programs. Online courses, simulations, and virtual
learning platforms help nurses develop their skills and stay updated
with the latest advancements.
G.Research and Evidence-Based Practice: Computers support nurses
in accessing research articles, journals, and databases, enabling them
to stay informed and incorporate evidence-based practices into their
care.
