OROZCO
MEXICAN CARTOONIST, PRINTMAKER, PAINTER, AND MURALIST
LIFE

• Born in November 23, 1883 in Jalisco, Mexico


• At the age of 21, Orozco lost his left hand while working with gunpowder to make
fireworks.
• Orozco was inspired by Guadalupe Posada’s engravings about Mexican culture and
politics
• Orozco studied art in 1906 and participated at a student’s strike with his fellow David
Siqueiros (also a muralist)
WORKS

• Orozco worked as an illustrator for newspapers and for one of the constitunaionalist
armies overseen by “First chief” Venustiano Carranza.
• He was inspired and affected by the violence which he had experienced
• He was disappointed by the reviews about his works in Mexico and decided to go to the
United States
• In 1923 he returned to Mexico and worked on his first mural
• Orozco and Diego Rivera were the leaders of the famous movement known as Mexican
moralism
