0 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

Quite often if not always, it is the occupants for no fault of their own who fall victim to fire. Besides
damage to their belongings and property, some occupants are burned to death for not knowing what
to do in the event of fire. The tragedy cannot be compensated in monetary terms. Therefore, it is
essential that the occupants of high- 4 rise buildings educate themselves as to what are the necessary
and compulsory measures to be taken in case of fire. It is also the duty and legal responsibility of the
owners of high-rise buildings to provide safety measures to their occupants against fire hazard.
Irregularities or negligence on their part would lead to prosecution and liability to pay compensation
for the damage caused.

fire safety systems are usually well designed and properly installed. However the problem appears
after this stage, where it is frequent to observe a complete disregarding for the accomplishment of
maintenance and test planning. Dieken 3 states that when facing a fire about one third of the safety
systems do not work properly just because of the lack of inspection, test or maintenance of such
systems. The author also refers that due to improper maintenance around 49% of the fire
extinguishing systems installed failed causing property damages around 15.9million dollars per year.
Unfortunately, this type of hidden failures is only revealed when a fire occurs and the system is
required.

Although all the standards and regulations produced, as well as the efforts towards finding effective
physical solutions for equipment design and its correct implementation in buildings, it is very
important to assure that all these safety barriers are properly installed and well maintained.

Usually these systems rely inactive for long periods or, in case of automatic systems, in a dormant
mode. The so-called hidden failures are only often detected through periodic inspections or tests and
thus it is very important to assure such procedures in a way to guarantee high fire safety levels.
Concerning fire safety systems it is observed that equipment design and installation are not a
problem. Based on this, it is important to pay attention to the remaining life time of such equipment
and on their effective operation.
8.0 DISCUSSION & SUGGESTION

Based on my research, the fire safety in the workshop that caused the fire due to the
attitude of the workers who like to smoke in the no smoking area that caused the fire
in the workshop, as well as the excessive use of the drilling machine that caused the
fire in the motor part of the drilling machine. Carelessness while operating the
machine without focus will result in damage to the machine that will be used by
others. Employers must remind all employees that safety in the workshop must be
practiced on a regular basis, if not every time after the morning briefing. Employees
must also report any damage to workshop equipment immediately so that there are no
fires caused by failure to inspect workshop equipment.

SUGGESTION
SRI 5KG ABC DRY POWDER - MALAYSIAN STANDARD
❖ Quick Knockdown - Dry powder, when correctly applied and at the required
application rate, can ensure an initial quick knockdown of a fire
❖ Non-conductor of electricity - Dry powder can safely be used at incidents
where is it known or suspected that “live” electrical equipment is present.

DIGITAL DAY/NIGHT SMOKE DETECTOR CAMERA

❖ Ideal for detecting dense smoke
❖ Less prone to nuisance/false alarms generated from cooking fumes and shower
steam
❖ Does not contain radioactive material making these smoke detector safer for
use
FIRE SPRINKLER HEAD SPRAY UPRIGHT SPRINKLERS
❖ The quantify of water used to fight a fire is approximately 0.02% to 17% of the
quantify that would be used if sprinklers were not installed, and a fire were to
occur
❖ On average sprinklered fires result in a reduction of carbon emissions of 7.8%
to 21.6% per fire when compared to sprinklered fires.
6.0 FINDING

FIRE EXTINGUISHER
❖ Fire extinguisher are effective at putting out small or newly sparked fires.
❖ Fire extinguisher have to be kept in good condition at all times and positioned where
everyone can quickly get them in the case of a fire.
❖ Locations where fires are most likely to start, such as the kitchen, workshop, and others
area, need to be equipped with fire extinguishers.

EMERGENCY PLAN
❖ Diagram above shows the emergency plan for the fitting workshop.
❖ The emergency plan is very important to have at any workshop because when any
accident happened the people inside know what to do patiently without any
hesitation.
❖ When any accident happened such as fire happened in the workshop we can follow
the plans

HIRARC TABLE
❖ Hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control(HIRARC) allude to a
coordinated and deliberate method subject to the dependable identification of
potential hazards and a relevant or fitting appropriate of the risks.
❖ Such risk emerge with the goa of making correlations to control and keep away
from them.
❖ The need to lead a hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control in any
association is exceptionally foremost since it is the earlier step with regard to solves
risks.

FIRE BLANKET
❖ In every workshop, fire blanket is very important in case of any accident of fire
happened.
❖ It is very important because, they can smoother the fires, while also working to protect
the user from burns and danger.
❖ The Fire Blanket is very important to avoid any severe injury.

WORKSHOP RULES
❖ Complying with workshop rules is very important for users because they can avoid
various unwanted accidents.
❖ A suitable jacket can prevent burns to the body if happens any fire.
❖ Non-compliance with the rules of the workshop will cause the occurrence of unwanted
events.
