Introduction
• General anesthesia brings on a sleep-like state with
• the use of a combination of medicines. The
• medicines, known as anesthetics, are given before
• and during surgery or other medical procedures.
• General anesthesia usually uses a combination of
• intravenous medicines and inhaled gasses. You'll
• feel as though you're asleep. But general
• anesthesia does more than put you to sleep. You
• don't feel pain when you're under general
• anesthesia. This is because your brain doesn't
• respond to pain signals or reflexes.
• An anesthesiologist is a doctor who specializes in
• anesthesia. In many hospitals, an anesthesiologist
• and a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA)
• work together as a team during your procedure.
• While you're under anesthesia, the anesthesia team
• monitors you, watches your body's vital functions,
• manages your breathing and treats pain related to
• the procedure
Aim of the study
• The Research is being conducted to find out the effect
of
• general anesthesia on diabetics, and to take the
necessary
• measures before and after the operation, and to know
the
• complications that may occur in the past, and the type
of
• medication suitable for them. The percentage of high
• diabetes differed according to ages
Abstract • Diabetes mellitus is the commonest endocrine dis
• order encountered in anaesthesia [ 37 , 14 ] . It is
• important , therefore , that all anaesthetists should
• understand the disease and its complications , and
• use a scientifically sound regimen for the peri
• operative management of diabetic patients . There
• are many articles on diabetes and the effects of
• anaesthesia and . surgery ; this review describes
• developments that have occurred in the past
• decade , concentrating mainly on the aetiology of
• diabetes and its complications , and how these may
• affect the anaesthetic management of a diabetic
• patient presenting for surgery . The various
• regimens used in the perioperative management of
• diabetes are outlined , and objective evidence of
• their efficacy discussed
Material and method
• Study design:
• This controlled study was conducted in Al-Shaimaa and
AlFirdous clinics during the periodfrom August 15, 2023 to
• August 21, 2023. In this study, permission was taken from
• the patients to display and answer some questions for the
• purpose of the questionnaire specified by the number of
• samples.
• This study included 20 people with diabetes, their ages
• ranged from Between (4_71) years, the data of diabetes
• mellitus for each sample were different in relation to the
• age and type of anesthetic drug
• Statistical analysis :
• We used Microsoft Excel to calculate the questionnaire, and
Results

• In this study, the elevation of blood sugar

appeared to be
• different for different ages, most likely from
4 to 71 years
• old, as shown in the patient age percentage
below.
IN THIS STATISTICAL ANALYSIS,
WE TOOK SAMPLES FROM BOTH
SEXES,
SO THE PERCENTAGE WAS 81%
OF WOMEN AND 19% OF MEN
In surgical operations,
general anesthesia is used
more than
spinal anesthesia
We used different
medications. Propofol
was the most used
in surgical operations,
followed by lasflurane
The name of the
processes from
which we took
information
We asked patients with diabetes
after their operation about high
diabetes, and their answer rate
was 55% yes and 45%
no
Discussion

• The effect of anesthesia on diabetics

varies, and there are
• those who have high blood sugar after
surgeries, and some
• of them do not
• There is a study that says that the effect
of propofol is less
• than the effect of seflurane on blood
glucose
• While there is a study conducted in Iraq
at the University of
• the Future, which says that propofol has
a greater effect on
• diabetics than other drugs.
Conclusion

• 1-High blood sugar level in people with

diabetes during and after the operation
• as a result of giving general anesthesia.
• 2-The patient with diabetes delayed recovery
after the operation as a result of
• anesthesia, compared to healthy people
• . 3-There is a positive, direct correlation
between diabetes and anesthesia
• 4-compared to different types of anesthesia in
diabetic and non-diabetic populations,
• general anesthesia has better control in
postoperative blood glucose levels.
