DEFINITON OF TERMS
 SENSORIUM - the totality of our senses and perception; a conglomerate of the individual
sense organ
 OLFACTION - is the sense of smell, system orginates in the roof of the nasal cavity with
the olfactory epithelium, which is a collection of epithelium, which is a collection of olfactory
receptor cells.
 TACTILE - something associated with touch.
 PHERONOME - a substance believed to be emitted by organism and which is thought to
be influencing social behavior.
 MAJOR HISTOCOMPATIBLI COMPLEX - a set of protein molecules associated with
the immune system.
there are five bodily organs
FIRST is sense of sight (visual), so that we are able to to see visual stimuli in the
environment.
SECOND is the sense of smell (olfaction), so that we are able to experience sound
scent.
THIRD is sense of hearing (audition), so that we are able to experience sound to
varying tones, pitches, and volume.
FOURTH sense of taste (gustation), so that we are able to experience the taste
(e.g.., saltness, sweetness, bitterness, etc.) of our food and other objects we put in
our mouth
FIFTH is touch/feelings so that we are able to have a tactile experiences, e.g.., heat
or it’s absense, various texture, various physical pressure.
The five senses comprise our sensorium. The totally of our
sensory expriences and perception. While we recieve
information from our environment though the sense, our
brain has the ability to organize and enterpret the
numerous stimuli into meaningful ideas that are useful for
our choices (behavior).
HUMAN AFFECT AND THE SENSES
Interetingly, while human being hailed a rational beings
who are constantly making choices and are behaving
through a set of rational choice made from higher ordr
thinking, it is hypothesized that our affect (emotions and
feelings) actually play a major role in our behaviors.
• Affective Primary Hypothesis (Zanjonc 1980) postulates
that in many cases, cognitive processing plays a lesser
role compared to our emotional responces in eliciting
behavior. By virtue of this hypothesis, by default our
emotion take precedent primary because there are only
proccessed and modulated by the limbic system the
emotional part of our brain which is more primitive
compared to the ones responsible for higher order
thinking (neocortex)
Three primary emotional reponses

FIGHT response is when we face adverse or dangerous

stimuli squarely.
FLIGHT response is when we move away from the
adverese or dangerous stimuli.
FREEZE response on the other hand is when you are
started and are unable to make a choice thus unable to
move.
VISUAL EXPERIENCE
Human are predominantly visual. Our societies highly rely on visual
culture to create meaning and convey information. For instance, our
language has a visual component as observing our writing system.
Walking down in the streets, you will see a lot of signs which directs you
what to do or not do. You will see signage placed on business
establishments to tell you where to buy your groceries, ask for medical
help or to school. These only show that visuals culture is an essentials
elements of our society. It is only appropriate to utilize these visual cues
since visual memory is deemed superior to other form (Cohen 2008)
 In the context of human sexuality. for instance the study of Rupp and
Wallen (2007) found that the men response more to visual sexual
stimuli and tend to be influenced by sex of the author in a sexual
scenario.
This means that when comfonted by an intimate interaction men
would tend to be rather influenced by a visual cues how the other person
look physical or what the other person is wearing
Olfactory Experience
Olfaction in non - human animals, which are believed to be
microsmatic organisnm or organism having greater sense of smell, have
been an interest among psychologist since the 1950. Conversely, human
and apes are generally believed to be microsmatic (lesser levels of
olfaction) compared to thier non-ape counterparts.however recent
studies in the field of human sexuality show that while we human have
limited olfactory, sense of smell may play an important part in our sexual
response.
 For instance in study by Muscarella, Arantes and
Konesol (2009) Explored on the preferred scent
among heterosexual and homosexual males and
females. The study found that heterosexual females
who participated in thier partners. Heterosexual
males and homosexual females in their study
preferred wearing musky-spicy scent and liked their
partners to wear floral-sweet scent.
Scientists have tried to explain how human influences
sexuality. They identified throught possibilities, through
what is reffered to as signature odor which is associated
with the Major Histocompatibility Complex a set of protein
signaling our immune system the presence of foreign
subtances and second through what is reffered to a
pheromones, subatances putatively excreted by our glands
whicg signals mood and affect socials behaviors.
 Pheromones are subtance which are secreted to the outside by an
individual and recieved by a second Individual of the same species.

 First it is though to act as attractants repellants, stabilizer of mother-

infant bond , and modulators of menstrual cycle. Some chemical though
to be human hormones are;
(1) Androstadienone, a testosterone-like subtance found in male sweat,
saliva, and urine.
(2) Estratetraenol, an estrogen-like found in female urine and
(3) I-pyrroline a subtance found in human semen, public ans smegma.
TACTILE EXPERIENCE
It refers to sensation are recieved or felt by touch. Tactile element
pertains to the experience relative to the object; Is it rough, is it smooth,
is the surface hard or soft.

Then there are thermal elements is; Is it warm or cold? finally and the
vibrational elements; Is the pressure of the touch strong or weak? Is the
sensation moving and pulsating or steady and stationary?
 DIFFERENT PART OF THE HUMAN BODY ALSO HAVE
DIFFERENT THERSHOLD OF TACTILE EXPERIENCE

Areas such the mouth, anus, genitals, and nipples are

reffered to as primary erogenous zone as they are also sensitive
to touch. The back, neck, and buttocks are secondary erogenous
zones as they are also sensitive to touch, but only supportive of
the primary zones in eliciting response. Often these erogenous
zones are areas of the body involve in the reproductive and
sexual act
When we touch our body produces a hormone called
oxytocin. It is reffered to as the love hormone
because it is believed to influence tribal behavior and
maternal bonding. Oxytocin is observe to be
produced in vast amounts during nipples simulation
such as for instance when a mother suckles her
new-born.
 In intimate realtionship touch is suggested
to be one of the love languages. A person
whose love language is touch tend to give
and recieve tactile stimulation to and from
others through holding, hugging and other
form of physical connections.
AUDITION EXPERIENCE
 Social interaction are not only visual, but are also
auditory processes. Our human language often have a
verbal counterpart to the written language. In fact,
historically much of our culture are passed on through
oral tradition, even before the writting system was
developed.
Social activities are also have a verbal communication
process. Sound give additional context to sexual situation.
for instance, in sexual interactions, couples may give
verbal erotic encourage words that menifest feelings ( I
love you, I miss you). A survey of popular music will show
that love and sex are among the common themes of songs
nowadays. This only emphasize the value of sound
human .
