ARCHIMEDES PRINCIPLE
PREVIOUS TOPIC???
 Pressure in a liquid increases with depth (HIDROSTATIC PRESSURE)
 The pressure always acts perpendicular to the contact
surface acting on objects in a fluid

The net force or the resultant force acting on the object due to
fluid pressure is called the Archimedes force or the buoyant
force (Fa) directed upwards and has a magnitude

“The magnitude of the buoyant force What is the magnitude

is equal to the weight of the fluid of the buoyant force?
displaced by the object, so:

= gaya apung (N)

Fa = ρf g Vbf = mf g
= massa jenis zat cair (kg/m3)
= volume benda dalam fluida (m3)
= gaya gravitasi (N)
= massa fluida yang dipindahkan (kg)
ANY QUESTIONS?
Why does the ship float
TERAPUNG?

“ Because the hull is made hollow which aims to make the volume of sea water moved by the hull
become larger. Based on the equation the magnitude of the buoyant force is proportional to the volume of
the fluid displaced. So the buoyancy force becomes very large. This buoyant force is able to resist the ship,

and the ship remains afloat on the surface of the sea.

How can air balloons
FLY?

Hot air balloons can float because inside the balloon contains hydrogen and helium gas.
The density of hydrogen or helium is lighter than the density of air. So that the hot air balloon can float / air
because it contains gas which has a density less than the density of air.

How can submarine float
MELAYANG?

“ Submarines have air valves and water valves that can be adjusted as needed. When going to dive,
the water valve is opened and the air valve is closed so that seawater enters the ballast tank and makes
the submarine grow and float to a certain depth. Because there is air in the tank, the submarine can balance

the buoyant force with its weight.
