Capacitance

Module 5

What is capacitance

 Capacitors-component in a circuit that stores
energy
 Dielectric-insulating the capacitors
 Capacitance-the amount of charges stored in a
capacitor per unit of electric potential

Shape of Capacitors

 Parallel plate
Simple structure, two parallel plates are separated by
dielectric that contains charges
 Cylindrical
The cylinder inside contains positive charge. Larger
capacitor has more capacitance than thin ones
 Spherical
Similar to cylindrical, it has internal sphere that
contains a charge. Dielectric is placed between the outer
sphere and inner sphere.
