What is a pronoun?
• It is a word that is used instead of a noun and still
maintains the meaning of the sentence.
– The man is from Quebec.
– He is from Quebec.

– Marcel and I are going to the store.


– We are going to the store.

– My friends are buying the bread.


– They are buying it.
Subject Pronouns
• A subject pronoun replaces the noun that is the
subject of the sentence.

– My father works in Paris.


– He works in Paris.

singular il. Remember,
the s is silent.

• It is used to talk about a


group of females or
“feminine” objects.

• It is pronounced exactly the


same way as the singular
elle. Remember, the s is
silent.
