How did you find the

PROCESS QUESTIONS:

Were you able to do

the task with ease?
PROCESS QUESTIONS:
Are you familiar with the
words population and

LET’S EXPAND AND
EXPOUND THE
HORIZON OF YOUR
LEARNING
OUR TARGETS!
MELC: Describes adequately research
design (either quantitative or
qualitative), data gathering instrument,
sample, data collection and analysis
procedures, prepares data gathering
instrument.
OUR TARGETS!
1. Define the concept of population and
sample and relate to the concept of
parameter and statistic;
2. Analyze examples about population and
sample; and
3. Relate the concepts of population and
sample in real-life scenario.
POPULATION
A POPULATION IS THE
ENTIRE GROUP THAT
YOU WANT TO DRAW
CONCLUSIONS ABOUT.
POPULATION >
SAMPLE
POPULATION
The size of the
population is always
more than the total size
of the sample.
POPULATION
The descriptive measure
computed from an entire
population of data is called
parameter.
Which is which?
LET’S TAKE THIS!
OUT OF 700 STUDENTS
OF BARAS-PINUGAY
INTEGRATED HIGH
SCHOOL, 10% WILL
JOIN THE EVENT.

TEACHERS WERE
CHOSEN TO ATTEND
THE TRAINING.
NOTE / REMEMBER:
In research, a population doesn’t
always refer to people. It can mean
a group containing elements of
anything you want to study, such as
objects, events, organizations,
countries, species, organisms, etc.
SAMPLE
A SAMPLE IS THE
SPECIFIC GROUP THAT
YOU WILL COLLECT
DATA FROM.
SAMPLE <
POPULATION
SAMPLE
The size of the sample is
always less than the total
size of the population.
SAMPLE
The descriptive measure
computed from a sample of
data is called statistic.

Question:
Why is it necessary for us to
understand the concept and
context of population and sample
especially now that we are
conducting research?
LET’S PLAY

SINKING)
INSTRUCTIONS:
1.The facilitator will instruct the participants to
form a group with specific number.
2.There will be three rounds in order to form a
group based on the instruction of teacher.
3.The participant with no group in each round will
automatically go back to their seats.
4.The last group standing will be the winner of the
game

SAMPLING TECHNIQUE
 A method in identifying
part of the respondents
of the study.
Random Sampling is a
technique that uses
randomization to make sure
that every element of the
population gets an equal
chance to be part of the
selected sample.
Stratified Sampling is a technique that
divides the elements of the population
into small subgroups (strata) based
on the similarity in such a way that
the elements within the group are
homogeneous and heterogeneous
among the other subgroups formed.
Convenience Sampling where
the samples are selected based
on availability.
Purposive Sampling is based on
the intention or the purpose of
the study.
Quota Sampling, this type of
sampling depends on some pre-
set standard. It selects the
representative sample from the
population.
Referral/Snowball Sampling is
used in situations where the
population is completely
unknown and rare.
