INTERVIEW
IN ENGLISH
1
PREPARATION
The standard preparation you would do for an interview in any language is to prepare your
1
resume or CV and send it to the company with a cover letter.
• This includes things like reading up on the company and planning out how you’ll present
your CV.
• You can get a lot of good advice in preparing for any interview by searching for things like
“prepare for a job interview”.
• Read several articles and apply their advice in your preparations.

PRACTICE
3
COMMON QUESTION
The third aspect of preparing for a job interview in English is reading up on
common interview questions in English and thinking through your answers in
advance.
4
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE
YOURSELF?
Give a brief summary of your education, experience, and goals. They want to know about
you and your career growth; they want to know about you related to the job you’re
applying for.
Example:
"I studied chemistry at Colgate University, and I’ve been working for Smith
Pharmaceuticals for the last three years. My experience is mainly in the area of clinical
testing, but I’m very interested in the field of cancer research."
5
WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS?
They want to know all your positive qualities. These positive qualities need to relate to what
they want and are looking for.
Example:
To be a team-player – to work well with others. I consider myself to be a team-player. I like
to work with other people and I find that it’s much easier to achieve something when
everyone works together and communicates well.
To be proactive – To do things and make them happen. I’m proactive. When I think about
things, I do them. I like to see results and it’s important in this industry to be proactive and
responsible for my own actions.
6
WHY DID YOU LEAVE
YOUR LAST JOB?
Did you leave because you were fired? Did you quit? or were you laid off? If you chose to leave
your old job, avoid saying anything negative about your old workplace or boss. The person or
people interviewing you will just look at you in a negative way. You can say the following:
Example:
• I’m looking for new challenges.
• I feel I wasn’t able to show my talents.
• I’m looking for a job that suits my qualifications.
• I’m looking for a job where I can grow with the company.
7
WHAT DO YOU DO
IN YOUR CURRENT ROLE?
Example:
• I was responsible for negotiating contracts
• I was in charge of advertising
• I worked with farmers, helping them to follow environmental laws
8
WHY WOULD YOU LIKE
TO WORK HERE?
Say some positive things about the company, and connect your skills to the
company’s needs or mission.
Example:
• TechNet is known for its innovative, high-quality products. As a programmer
who enjoys solving problems creatively, I’d be an excellent fit for this
position.
• One thing that impresses me about Brown Consulting is your dedication to
your clients, and my passion for service would make me a valuable addition to
your team.
