ICS Triplex

Trusted fault tolerant technology

Fault-tolerant control
smaller, faster, simpler, & less expensive
12/21/23 1
WHY TRUSTED!!!

Trusted is unquestionably the

best in class fault tolerant
technology available today and
probably will be for the next three
years.
Trusted is as cost effective as
1oo2D as well as dual plcs!

Stacking up to our competition

 System scalability meets the widest range of critical control application requirements from 16 to over 7000 I/O.

 Self protected outputs – no fuses required for over current protection eases maintenance.

 No load indication identifies faulted point and facilitates diagnosing field wiring problems.

 Remote Expander chassis remotely may be located up

to 2km from main chassis, maximizing fault tolerant
distribution and minimizing cost to the end user.

 Operating system firewall allows ensures isolation of multiple

programs to allow the end user to program critical and non-critical
applications in the same Trusted system.

ICS Triplex “The HIFT system, by its very nature, offers the
Stacking up to our competition highest practical level of diagnostic coverage.”

Paul Gruhn P.E., Reliability Engineer L&M Engineering

 TUV Certified to AK6, and being certified to 61508 SIL3, giving the end user the comfort of third party validation
and approval.

 HIFT design reduces operating systems size, minimizes systems software and increases processing speed
offering the end user the safest and simplest design.

 Smallest fault tolerant footprint, reduces panel size, reduces instrument house size …reduces end user cost!

 Predictive maintenance diagnostics provides signature analysis of end device as well as environmental conditions of
the hardware, focusing the operator’s attention to problems before they happen!

 Widest range of fault tolerant I/O modules from 16 point, low density modules to 40 and 60 point high density,
offering the end user the most cost effective solution for each segregated process under control.

 On line board replacement with no process interruption, offers the user nearly 100% up time.

12/21/23 22
ICS Triplex
Stacking up to our competition

 Unlike 1oo2D architectures, The Trusted TMR architecture, outvotes CPU mismatches and continues
running safely. This maximizes the process run time of the plant. To repair the mismatched CPU,
maintenance simply swaps the module on-line with no process upset.

“When a safe failure occurs in one unit of the 1oo2D architecture

and it is not detected by self-diagnostics, its output de-energizes
and the diagnostic switch stays closed. Under these
circumstances, the comparison between logic solvers will likely
indicate a mismatch and the architecture will shutdown.”

 Firewall protection is designed into the operating system kernel to ensure that safety related application
programs are isolated from non-critical application programs.

 The IEC 1131 Toolset allows the user to define up to 250 individual programs. This allows the user to run
safety related programs and continuous process programs in the same Trusted fault tolerant system.

Stacking up to our competition

 Universal I/O modules cost effectively meet the needs of the smallest fault tolerant applications.

 I/O module scan time load leveling, optimizes system performance to meet the needs of your
individual process and machine control needs.

 Distributed fault tolerance at the I/O module places the intelligence closer to the process where
more accurate data is automatically made available to the operator. Allows the user to configure
multiple alarm thresholds per point. For example, each point can be configured for bad sensor
check, high or low, high, high high, low, low low alarm level settings and deadband.

 True 1ms SOE resolution regardless of system size, for each alarm threshold, analog or digital,
input or output point, configured at the module to give the operator the most accurate resolution for
process and system level alarms.

 Smart slot reduces installation and integration costs.

 Self protected outputs – no fuses required for over

current protection to ease maintenance.

 No load indication identifies faulted point to H
