Iké Udé ‘s Art Work

• Analyzing exhibitions and displays at a gallery or museum involves considering various principles to ensure a meaningful and engaging visitor
experience.

1. CONCEPT & THEME

• Iké Udé ‘s art work celebrates the luminescent beauty and mystique of African visionaries by turning his lens on the talented people who drive
Nollywood.
• Known for his performative and iconoclastic style and vibrant sense of composition, Udé’s photographs use color, attire and other markers to
make elegant yet unexpected portraits.
• The sumptuous details in these portraits are reminiscent of what is considered “classical” portraiture, and while the subjects are glamorous
and elegant, the portraits themselves represent an artistic balance of composition, form, and color.

2. CURATORIAL NARRATIVE

• His photographs aim to make a bold statement about the power of African identities, despite centuries of attempted erasure by Eurocentric
art history and notions of beauty.

3. ACCESSIBILITY

• The artist has made his art work very accessible by exploring online/virtual platforms where his art pieces are being displayed.
• This enables everyone around the world to have access to his work without necessarily traveling across continents or countries or having to
physically visit the museums where his art work is being displayed.
• All one needs is access to the internet to engage and interact with his work.
• As part of accessibility his art pieces have very clear and easily interpretive labels.
• He has included multimedia presentations where he explains his art work.
4. AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT

• There interactive elements such as multimedia displays where he speaks about his work and you can better understand the concept and story
behind his work.
• The labels used on the art work clearly explain who each character is, where they come from and how many Nollywood Films they have acted to
help visitors understand the individual better and create a personal relationship especially for the Nigerians who engage with his work and come
from a similar place with the model.

5. TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION

• By exploring online/virtual exhibition platforms to increase the number of people who see and interact with his work the artist has taken
advantage of integrating technology in his work and has used it to grow his audience and expand his base.

6. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

• The artist being of Nigerian decent has fostered community involvement in his art work by using local artists who are Nigerian actors and
actresses as his muses in his art work.
• He wanted to celebrate the luminescent beauty and mystique of African visionaries of Nigerian decent who are talented and who drive the
Nollywood industry.
