What is
management?
- It is the process of establishing organizational
objectives and their accomplishment by
working with individuals and groups
- It is the art of getting the work done through
and with the people or organized group

Introduction
The management process involves a series of
activities and functions aimed at achieving
organizational goals and objectives efficiently
and effectively. It is a systematic approach to
planning, organizing, leading, and controlling
resources (including people, finances, and
materials) to achieve desired outcomes.

performing the functions of planning,
organizing, staffing, directing, and
controlling the activities of the nursing
department

• Setting Goals
PLANNING
Identify and define clear and achievable objectives that align with
the organization's mission and vision
• Developing Strategies
Creation of a roadmap or plan of action to achieve the set goals. This
includes determining what needs to be done, when, and by whom.
• Resource Allocation
Allocation of resources such as human resources, finances, and
materials to support the planned activities
• Risk Assessment
Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate or manage
them

ORGANIZING
• Designing the organizational structure, including hierarchy, roles, and
responsibilities, to facilitate efficient workflow and communication
• Acquiring and allocating the necessary resources and ensuring they are
used effectively
• Establishing procedures and workflows to ensure tasks are carried out
efficiently
• Defining decision-making authority and responsibility for each role
within the organization

DIRECTING/LEADING
• Motivating and Managing People: Inspiring and guiding employees to
work towards common goals, including communication, supervision, and
team-building

• Decision-Making: Making crucial decisions to drive the organization


forward.

• Conflict Resolution: Addressing conflicts and disputes within the

CONTROLLING
• Performance Measurement: Monitoring and evaluating progress toward
goals and objectives.
• Comparing Actual vs. Planned Performance: Assessing whether the
organization is on track and taking corrective actions if necessary.
• Quality Control: Ensuring that products or services meet the desired
quality standards.
• Financial Control: Managing budgets and finances to ensure cost-
effectiveness and profitability.
• Feedback and Learning: Using feedback and performance data to make
improvements and adjustments to the plans and strategies.

“ The management process is not necessarily a linear sequence but
often involves an ongoing, iterative cycle of activities. Effective
management requires good leadership skills, the ability to make
informed decisions, and a commitment to achieving
organizational goals while considering the needs and concerns of
stakeholders. It is a fundamental aspect of running any
organization, whether it be a business, non-profit, government
agency, or any other type of entity.
