The English Revolution was a period of fundamental change that
challenged monarchical rule, culminating in the execution of Charles
I in 1649 and, later, the establishment of the Republic under Oliver
Cromwell. The English Revolution had several phases and played an
important role in the evolution of democracy and individual rights in
England and throughout the Western world.
