What is VidaProduct?

VidaProduct is a composite material manufactured by

bonding an abrasion resistant casting to a backing plate .
VidaProduct

How is VidaProduct produced?

A hardened, heat treated casting is placed on top of a mild

steel backing plate separated by a thin copper shim ( .004 ).
This steel sandwich is then placed into a vacuum furnace
where it is brazed together to form a true metallurgical bond
between components.
VidaProduct

What’s the significance of a true metallurgical

bond?

Fact: Most bonded metals fail during use do to

shear and impact at the bond line.
VidaProduct

The bond created by using a vacuum brazing

process coupled with meticulously controlling
time and temperature spent in the furnace,
produces a bond strength equal to 20 tons per
square inch.

Fact: If a product failure would occur, our

statistics show the source will most likely be the
casting, not the bond.
VidaProduct

What is the casting made of?

Bucyrus Blades VidaProduct castings are a

carbide composite cladding of chromium rich
carbides encased in a white iron matrix.
VidaProduct

The Finished Product

A highly abrasion resistant casting that can withstand

varying degrees of impact designed to extend wear life
of metal components found on both mobile and fixed
plant equipment.
VidaProduct

Recommended Application

VidaProducts perform best in highly abrasive low to

moderate impact conditions.

VidaProduct

How is VidaProduct attached?

VidaProducts are attached by welding the

casting to the surface of the high wear area.

The #1 reason for in-field failure is improper

welding techniques or root pass erosion causing
product to prematurely separate from the
equipment.
VidaProduct

Welding Practices

Industry standard welding practices are all that’s

required to attach VidaProduct.
VidaProduct

Welding Practices

Although a complete understanding of the welding

procedure is not required to effectively sell
VidaProduct, a basic knowledge will assist you
when addressing customer questions.
VidaProduct

Welding Practices

Consumables required are the same as those

used to attach weld-on base edges.

E7018 low hydrogen rod or equivalent

VidaProduct

Welding Practices

Avoid excessive heat at the bond line.

No Pre-Heating
VidaProduct

Welding Practices
Weld bead should remain a minimum of 1/16”
below bond line.
VidaProduct

Welding Practices
Note: All welding should be kept to a minimum
to eliminate heat build up which can loosing the
bond between casting and backing plate.
VidaProduct

Welding Practices

Welding procedures are included on all

VidaProduct literature.

Vidabutton

Vidabuttons are best installed leaving a 1”– 2”

gap between buttons. This allows room for
proper positioning of the weld rod, and creates
pockets where fines will deposit giving additional
protection to the weld.
VidaProducts

Chokblock
Chokblocks are available in five different sizes:

1086 - 1 x 1-1/2 x 9-1/2

1087 - 1 x 2 x 9-1/2
1088 - 1 x 2-1/2 - 9-1/2
1089 - 1-1/8 x 3-1/2 - 9-1/2
1090 - 1-1/8 x 5 x 9-1/2
VidaProducts

Chokblock
The versatility of the backing plate allows the bar to
conform to mildly convex or concave applications
VidaProducts

Chokblock

Chokblocks can be formed up to a 10-1/2”

radius.
VidaProducts

Chokblock

Chokblocks being used for under bucket wear

protection are best installed at a 45° angle to
eliminate wear tracks created by channeling
between rows.

Vidablock

The most common use for Vidablock is in the construction

of a rock box. As material flows up a conveyor it is dropped
vertically into a bin or hopper. Lining this contact area of
the bin with horizontally positioned Vidablock will
drastically increase the wear resistance of this area.
VidaProducts

Head wall used at the end of a conveyor.

Material fills in between the ledges creating
a micro-ledge. Like material flowing over like
material creates
ideal wear
conditions.
VidaProducts

Because of their ferritic content, Bucyrus Blades

VidaProducts are magnetic, allowing them to
be run safely in crushing operations.

Visual Inspection

Do to the manufacturing process

a copper cast on top of the silver
matted finish is a sign of a quality
product.
VidaProducts

Visual Inspection

Hairline cracking in casting is normal and is not cause

for alarm. This can be present when received from the
factory, or materialize later after use. This is partly due
to the manufacturing process, or can occur due to flexing
and impact during use.

Hot Slag
VidaProducts can operate successfully in
temperatures of 700 C or
1300° F.
