 INTRODUCTION/IFARA
A farewell speech is one of life's most essential and
challenging speeches. It usually contains past
achievements, instructions for the future, and warnings.

INTRODUCTION/IFARA
Like Jacob, Moses, Joshua, David, and many others, Jesus' words
in John 13 – 17 were his farewell speech to the disciples. Gege bi

In John 1 – 12, the word love is mentioned 8
times, and 31 times in chapters 13 – 17. This
morning, Holy Spirit is drawing our attention to
'LOVE AND UNITY: A TRUE IDENTITY OF
CHRIST'S DISCIPLES as we study the text above.

the next command Christ will give.

greatest by way of love and humility.

follow me to where I am going now. If there is a

 THE NEW COMMAND TO LOVE AND
UNITE
(34 -35)

It is impossible to love and not
unite, but it is possible to unite
and not love. Discuss. Jiroro lori

The command to love one another is
divine 1John 3: 16 – 18, 4: 12, 17. Ase lati

The command to love is not new in the
Bible, Leviticus 19: 18. Christ says it is a
new command. But why Jesus says is new

 IT IS NEW BECAUSE OF THE
FOLLOWING:
It is a new command because it is a
command to the disciple alone – love
one another
It is a new command because it is as
Christ love – as I love you
It is a new command because it is a
witnessing love - by this, all shall know
that you are my disciple.

IMPLICATIONS OF
CHRIST'S LOVE AMONG
THE DISCIPLES? KI ni

This is a new command because it is
particular to the Disciples of Christ. Ase yi

Love among the disciples is like a wall. Ife

It will prevent the enemies from
penetrating their fellowship. Ko ni jeki ota

Now the shepherd will be striked and the sheep
will scatter, nothing could keep the disciples
together except the Love of Christ among them.

Christ's love and unity among the disciples is
proof that they have been with Christ and have

Love and unity among the disciples will
help them to treat one another as Christ

Love and unity among the disciples is a

Love and unity prove they have
dealt with the flesh of pride,
jealousy, and struggle among the
disciple. The question of who will
be the greatest will not arise

will help them to stay and pray

are true marks that they are Christ's

By the grace of God, we have discussed the reality that
requires the command to love and unite. The new
command to love and unite, and the peculiarity of the
command to Christ's disciples.
It is evident through this study we have discovered
that a community of Christ's disciples is a loving
community.
How do we live and relate as an association,
church, organization, and family?
Do our relationship reflect the love of God?
Let us consider these things and amend our ways
before the Lord as we pray together.
