Verb: Simple Past Tense

(Common Regular Verb & Common Irregular Verb)
 Simple Past Tense
• Simple past tense is used to talk about
a completed action in a time before
now
• The simple past is the basic form of past
tense in English.
Common Regular Verb
• With most verbs the past tense is
formed by adding -ed:
• if the root form already ends in an “e”
just add -d
• These are “Common Regular Verb”
• Example:
call >> called; like >> liked;
want >> wanted; work >> worked
How to use:
Common Regular Verbs in Past Tense

Example:
1. Jimmy entered a hula hoop competition last
weekend.
2. Eric played badminton with his friends last
weekend.

Irregular Verb
• There are also a lot of Common Irregular
Verb in English
• The past tense of the word does not form
by adding -d or –ed
• Example:
See→Saw ,Build→Built, Go→Went,
Do→Did, Rise→Rose,
Am/Is/Are→Was/Were
How to use:

Example:
1. Jimmy went to the zoo last weekend.
2. Eric made a birthday cake for his mum last weekend.
