INTRODUCTION
The tumor disorder is also referred to as benign neoplasm. They
are tumors which have uniform cells which closely resemble the
cells of their tissue of origin. Tumors grow slowly and they push
aside the surrounding structures and may compress these
structures but do not damage them, it remain confined to the site
of origin.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
• To define benign tumor
• To determine the causes of benign tumor
• To determine the management of Conjunctivitis
Concept of the Study
A benign tumor is an abnormal but noncancerous collection of cells.
It can form anywhere on or in the body when cells multiply more
than they should or don’t die when they should. A benign tumor is
not malignant. It grows more slowly, has even borders and doesn’t
spread to other parts of the body. Many benign tumors don’t require
treatment. Types of benign tumor include lipomas, fibromas, myoma,
hemangioma, adenoma, osteoma, and lymphangioma.
CAUSES OF BENIGN TUMOUR
• Diet
• Hormonal agents
• Exposure to radiation
• Genetic
• Local trauma injury
• Inflammation/infection
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF BENIGN TUMOUR
• Pallor

• Fever

• Headache

• Loss of appetite

• Fatigue

• Pain

• Weight loss

• Swelling on the area

• Confined mass

• Skin discoloration

• Anaemia
INVESTIGATIONS
• CT scans
• MRI scans
• mammograms
• ultrasounds
• X-rays
• Biopsy
NURSING MANAGEMENT

• Admit the patient in the medical ward and collect data.

• Assist the patient to assume position of comfort in a well made bed.

• Reassure the patient and relatives to allay anxiety.

• Check patient vital signs regularly, maintained fluid intake and output

• Encourage patient to drink water to prevent dehydration and

constipation.

• Assist the patient to carryout all prescribed investigations e.g tissue

biopsy ultrasound scan, blood analysis mammography etc.

• Give prescribed drugs e.g tamoxifen, paracetamol, vitamin C, etc.

MEDICAL MANAGEMENT/TREATMENT
• Radiotherapy: This is the use of high energy ionizing radiation
to interrupt the growth of the tumor. It is a local therapy that
apply to the anatomical area to destroy tumor.
• Chemotherapy: This is the use of anti neoplastic agents (drugs)
in the management and treatment of tumor. Chemotherapy reduce
and destroy tumor cells. Examples of anti neoplastic agents
includes: Mitotane, Busulfan, vincristine, tamoxifen etc.
• Combination therapy: This is the combination of two or more
method in the treatment of tumor.
• Surgery: This is the incision or surgical removal of tumor cells.
Conclusion
The tumor disorder is also referred to as benign neoplasm. They are
tumors which have uniform cells which closely resemble the cells of
their tissue of origin. Tumors grow slowly and they push aside the
surrounding structures and may compress these structures but do not
damage them, it remain confined to the site of origin. Benign Tumor
