The Danube starts in Germany and flows through 10 countries into the Black Sea
The Danube Key Facts

• The Danube is 2,850km in length.


• It is the second longest river in Europe
after the Volga.
• 30% of the Danube is in Hungary.
• It flows through major cities including
Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and
Belgrade.
• The Danube provides drinking water for
20m people.
• It is a major European tourist attraction
visited by hundreds of millions of people
each year.
• The Iron Gates (Porțile de Fier) is a gorge
in the Danube between Serbia and
Romania and separates the Carpathian
Mountains from the Balkan Mountains.

The Danube Delta

• The Danube Delta is the second largest


river delta in Europe after the Volga.
• It is made up of wetlands, marshes,
channels and lakes and is home to
thousands of species of birds, fish,
mammals and plants.
• It flows into the Black Sea.
• More than 75% of the Danube Delta is in
Romania.
• I visited Tulcea in 2015 when I was 6.
