Introduction
• CFD simulation is conducting over two circular ducts connected to each other at centerline with
water as a fluid in ANSYS Fluent software.
• Geometry construction and boundary conditions are applied.
• Meshing and solution method is derived from input variables.
• Development of velocity and pressure contours.
• Calculation of pressure and shear force across walls of pipe.
• Comparison of all outcomes from analytical solutions.
Project simulation
Outcomes

It contains all steps of

simulation from geometry,
material selection to results.
Geometry section

• Material used is Aluminum

• D1=0.05m, D2=0.025m
• L1=0.5m, L2=0.75m
• Sudden contraction
• Extrude and fill commands applied.
• Named selection at inlet, wall and outlet.

Pressure/Velocity Contours
Pressure and shear force
Conclusion

• Analytical results are far better than software results due to change in average
velocity applied.
• Due to sudden contraction velocity suddenly increase that can be seen in
slides.
• Results are varying that can be due to following reasons:
• Friction factor
• No slip condition
• A Re number increases flow become turbulent
