Introduction

• The Health Sector Strategic Plan is a document that clearly explains

the road map of planned implementation of activities.

• One of the program out puts was the implementation of the

Minimum health care package (MHCP).

• The MHCP comprised of 12 elements as discussed below

Goal of HSSP

• Based on general good population health the overacting goal of HSSP

was threefold
• Expanded economic growth
• Increased social development
• Poverty eradication
Program objectives

• The main objective of this program was to,

• Reduce morbidity and mortality from major causes of ill health including
reduced health care delivery disparity

• In order to achieve this objective, the minimum health care package

which formed program out put was to be implemented.
1. Control of Communicable Diseases
Malaria, STD/HIV/AIDS, TB among others

2. Integrated Management of Childhood Illness

Reduction of preventable mortality, minimize illness and disability, and promote healthy
growth and development of children under five years of age.

3. Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights

To ensure quality sexual and reproductive health services, address STIs, cervical cancer and
reproductive health related violence
4. Immunization
Targets infants and women of childbearing age.

5. Environmental Health
Natural and built environment affecting human health

6. Health Education and Promotion

Promoting a healthy lifestyle and preventing illness

• 7. School Health
Health activities and measures that are carried out with the community to promote
and protect the health of the students
8. Epidemics and Disaster Preparedness & Response
Timely response to disease outbreaks

9. Nutrition
Advocate for improved nutrition for proper growth

10. Interventions against Diseases Targeted for Elimination or Eradication

Introduce/consolidate activities towards elimination/eradication of disease

11. Mental Health

Efforts towards emotional, psychological, and social well-being

12. Essential Clinical services

Restoring and/or maintaining access to essential lifesaving services
