The Global

Filipino
In todays era, every people's
lives are already tied and affected
by globalization and its
processFilipino's are clearly no
exemption and continously rose
from time to time as filipino can be
every good in adapting changes.
In aspects of the Philippine economy, it
depends largely on incomes from jobs
with global connection's and the first is
migrants labor.

In 2015 the Department of labor and

employment reported that the number of
filipinos leaving the country to work
overseas rose to 4,018 in 2010 to 6,092 in
2015, 51 percent increase in the span of
five years.
In 2016, there were 2.4 million Filipinos
leaving and/or working outside of the
country according to the Philippine
statistical authority.
An article by Rappler publish a report that
OFW's sent back $25.8 billion in 2015,
roughly 8.5 percent of the country's gross
domestic product.

The second is Business Process

Outsourcing (BPO) that the philippines
provides for foreign clients. According to
Agcanili, L.. 2017 in 2015, BPO operations
yielded $24 billion. Combined, these two
economic activities have plowed over $51
billion into the country's national coffers.
The Philippine export machinery,
semiconductors, wood, cars, expercorrops
and fruits, minerals (gold and copper),
ships and vehicles to other Asian
countries, Europe, and North America.
According to Workman,D. 2017 in 2016,
these export earned $56.3 billion.

The fourth largest source of income in the

country is tourism, which reachest about
$6.05 billion by the end of 2016 according
to the World Bank.
Added to the $51 billion from OFW and
BPO earnings, the total revenue of
$113.35 billion makes the Philippines the
36th largest economy in the world.

The philippines is the 8th largest rice

prodocer in the world but the country is
also one of the biggest importers of rice
as basic staple.
History records have shown that
communities in the archipelago were
ingage in extensive and lucrative trade
with other neighboring countries in most
of Southeast Asian countries, China and
other countries in Asia in the pre-colonial
era.

A colony of two, Spain and the Americans

as the same as neighboring countries.
When the philippines become independent,
the country sided with the United States
during the Cold War against the USSR or
the Union of Sovict Socialist Republic.

In the 1960's, when the United States

intervened in the Vietnam War, the
philippines helped formed the anti-
communist regional body, the Southeast
Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO), created
by the American hegemon to "contain" the
alleged spread of communism in the
region.
The global connections of the filipinos
cannot be deterred . Despite the warnings
of the nationalism filipinos on the affects of
the influence of the foreign culture
especially the western culture, the filipinos
continue to hold the West in high regard
without realizing the corrupting influence
of the West, English is the other official
language of the country aside from filipino,
English is largely spoken lingun franca in
the country. The American popular culture
remains the model of modernity and high
social class.
2014 Pew research center survey by
Stokes, B. Showed that 92% of the
filipinos are pro-american. The cultures
importes to the philippines shores are not
juat American. The country has adopted
Japanese, Korean, and even Mexican
Popular culture, notable in teenage
boy/girl hands( kpop,kdrama, jpop, etc.)
As well as various maxican
telenovelas(Marimar, Maria de barrio,
Rosalinda, etc.)
According to Umeda, Y. 2009, Filipinos
living or working in Japan alter their
clothing styles to look and act more like
Japanese. Aside from that, many Korean
merchandises and fasion statements were
already used and followed by many
filipinos in all ages.
The Korean and Japanese language are
attractive to learn, and these are all
coming from the influences of the TV
dramas and other media platforms. Most
people today have various and easy
access on the different social media
platforms and Internet which play the vital
role. It is in the diaspora that there is a
greater attempt to "perseve" filipino
culture.
This pecular "preservation" of "tribal
pilipinosarts" indicates a "reverse flow" in which
the local is now transposed overseas. The
campaign to revive baybayin as a National
Writting System campaigned by various
organization.

A house of Bill wa filed by Pangasinan Rep.

Leopoldo Bataoil in 2018 named House Bill
1022 whose desire is to preserve and promote
baybayin. The Bill was approved by th House
Committee on Basic Education and culture,
which seeks to "promote, protect, preserve and
conserve Baybayin" as the National Writting
System of the philippines.
Filipinos really have very little choice but
to accept this globalized world. The world
is not going backward instead every
single day. Lots and lots of things are
upgraded and its like there is no turning
for globalization.

The impact of globalization to the filipinos

is actually uneven and often doesn't
beneficial to most filipinos. But there is
also movement and progress.
Part of that is because of the political
leaders leading the government whose
actions and decisions are will greatly
impact the country, most of these leaders
decided to open the philippines to the
world community hence the country has
embraced the community decades ago.
The only choice the country has is to
move and look forward in the midst of
globalization since going back in the old
times in no longer attainable. The
government led by its leaders and the
people itself should find a balance from
the imbalance of globalization.
