1) The document describes a surveying lab experiment to determine the height of an object using a transit theodolite when the base line is accessible.
2) The procedure involves setting up the transit theodolite at a station and taking vertical angle readings of the top and bottom of the object, as well as measuring the horizontal distance to the object.
3) The height is then calculated using trigonometry, by taking the tangent of the vertical angles multiplied by the horizontal distance.

PROCEDURE Setup the instrument at station p. Perform all temporary adjustment. Bring the line of collimation horizontal (vertical angle reading is zero). Sight the top of the object(A),read the vertical angle α1. Sight the bottom of the object B,and read the vertical angle α2. Measure the horizontal distance between the instrument station and the object (D). Calculate the height of the object as Follow: h1 = D tanα1 h2 = D tanα2 01/26/2024 Annual Review 5 PRECAUTIONS Level and center the instrument carefully over the station. The theodolite and the telescope both should be perfectly clamped for the precise readings. All instruments used in surveying must be handle carefully.
