This document outlines a community agreement for an ENCS 272 AA course during the summer of 2023. The agreement includes guidelines for resolving conflicts, taking turns speaking, giving full attention to speakers, not speaking for others, allowing people to pass on sharing, respecting personal space, using non-judgemental and ownership language, and being respectful of diversity. It cites two sources for community agreements and integrating social-emotional learning into classroom culture.

• Conflicts not resolved within 24 hours must be let go without a grudge. • “2 and 2”: Speak for no longer than 2 minutes and allow 2 others to speak before your next turn. • Be fully present and give undivided attention to the individual speaking. • Do not attempt to speak for others.
Examples • “Right to pass”: no one is required to share if they do not
want to. • Respect each other’s personal space. • Maintain a nonjudgemental approach and take ownership of opinions. For example, use ‘I’ statements (I think we could proofread this section) instead of ‘you’ statements (You made a lot of mistakes). • Sensitivity to diversity: be respectful of different cultural backgrounds, gender identities etc. and mindful of making insensitive or careless remarks. • Middleweb (2019). 4 Tips to Integrate SEL into Classroom Culture.
