Meaning of Creativity
The word creativity comes from the Latin word "creare " which
means " to create " or " to make ".

Creativity is the capacity of the individual to discover or produce


new ideas.

It may also include restructuring or rearranging the old idea.


Definition of creativity

"Creativity is the power of human mind to create new contents


by transforming relation and generating new correlates".
By Spearman

" All forms of creativity grow out of a combinational cativity, a


placing of thing in new perspective".
By Bruner
" creativity as the capacity of a person to produce
compositions, products or ideas which are essentially new or
novel and previously unknown to the producer".

By Drevdahl

" Creativity as a rare capacity for developing insights,


sensitivities and appreciations in a circumscribed content
area of intellectual or artistic activities".

Stages in the Process of
Creativity

Graham Wallas and Patrick (independently ) have


indicated four stages of Creativity. They are
Preparation
Incubation
Illumination
Verification
Preparation
• Preparation is the working stage.
• In this stage, the problem is defined and explained.
• Involves purposeful study, discussion with others
• Relevant facts and materials considered essential
are gathered.
• Plan of action is formulated , inspiration is proper
Preparation.
Incubation
• In this stage, one can make rest or sleep or do
even some other problem.
• No new knowledge orexperience is added to
the existing stock.
• Mind is relaxed.
Illumination
• Creative ideas occur suddently, the obscure thing
becomes clear.
• Illumination implies insight.
• It may occur any time , even during dreams.
Verification

• Evaluation of the solution is done.


• The sollution is the correct one or not
• Sometimes the solution needs some
modification.
• Revision is made till the solution workable.
Conclusion
Creativity is the most significant concept for
human development.The creativity process
allows for new discoveries and understanding.
