crucial aspects of
managing and utilizing
databases effectively.
WHAT IS A DATABASE?
🔴 A database is a collection of
data.

🔴 It is organized in a way that

allows for efficient retrieval and
manipulation of data.

🔴 It is used to store
information for a wide range of

A database management
system contains two
languages namely Data
Definition Languages (DDL)
and Data Manipulation
Language (DML).
A database system provides a data
definition language to specify the
database schema and a data
manipulation language to express
database queries and updates.
Data Definition Language
(DDL)
🔹 D D L establishes the connection between logical
and physical structures of the database.

🔹 Logical refer to the way the user views data.

🔹 Physical refers to the way the data is
physicallystored.
🔹 T h e logical structure of database is
called schema.

the structure of the database.

🔺 : Drop: It is used to delete

objects from the database.
🔻 : Rename: It is used
to rename an object.

🔺 :Truncate: It is used
to remove all records
from a table.
DM L
Data manipulation language is
used to manipulate data in the
database. It includes all the
commands that enable the users
to manipulate the data, and the
users can view the data, add new
data, delete existing data and
modify selected fields in a record.

essential to prevent data
loss and minimize downtime
in case of failures.

used to track database
performance, detect
issues, and perform
routine maintenance
tasks like updates
and patches.
