• We like to wear colourful clothes. After the cloth is woven, it is dyed in different colours. In
earlier days, natural dyes were made from different parts of plants different minerals. Dyes
made from chemicals are called synthetic or artificial dyes. Today, we mostly use synthetic
or artificial dyes.Sometimes, some coloured fabrics bleed colour when they are washed.the
process of dyeing them . Cloth is made attractive with various types of designs. This is done
either by weaving patterns on it with different colored threads on a loom or by printing
designs on it.Let us discuss some ways in which designs are made on cloth. This happens
especially with cotton clothes . When we wash coloured clothes for the first time, we should
soak them in salt water before we-wash them. Doing so stops the colour from bleeding when
we wash the clothes the next time. They should be washed separately as they may lose
colour. They should be dried in the shade to avoid fading.
Block Printing
• Beautiful designs are carved on wooden blocks. These blocks are then
dipped in colour and pressed on the cloth.
