WHAT IS AN ECOSYSTEM

Lesson one
WHAT IS AN ECOSYSTEM
WHERE ORGANISMS LIVE?

 An ecosystem is any place that living things are

found.
 An ecosystem is all the living and nonliving things in
an area.
 An ecosystem can be big like forest or small like the
space under rocks.
 Your class room is an ecosystem.
Nonliving parts

1. Air
2. Water
3. Soil
4. Rocks
5. Sunlight
6. Temperature
 They usually determine the
number and type of
organisms that can live there
LIVING PARTS

 A population is a group of organisms of one species

that live in an area at the same time.
 A community is made up of all the populations in an
area.
 Members of a community depend on each other to fill
needs, like: food, shelter, and reproduction
LIVING AND NONLIVING
PARTS

 The living and nonliving parts interact in many

ways. Each part has a role ( to meet the needs of all
parts)
 Do all the ecosystems meet all the needs of all
organisms?
 If the population’s needs are not met it will get
smaller.
BIOMES
 Biologists have divided the world into regions called biomes
 It is a large ecosystem with generally the same climate and
organisms.
 A single biome may covers many countries.
