Chapter 8 : Properties of magnets
A. Magnets
What Are The Poles of a Magnet?

The ends of a magnet are known as its poles. One end is called the
north pole. The other end is called south pole. The pole s are often
marked ‘ N ‘ or ‘ S ‘. Did you observe that the poles of a magnet
atrrached the most number of paper clip?

What Happens When Mangnets interact?

When the poles of two magnets are brought close to each other, the magnets interact. Magnets
can pull or push other magnets.

Two north poles are two south poles are known like poles. Like poles of two magnets push or
repel each other.

A north pole and a south pole are known unlike poles. Unlike poles of two magnets pull or atrract each
other.
B. Magnetic and Non Magnetic Materials
What Materials Are Attrached to Magnets?

Magnets can attracted to a magnet are magnetic materials.

Iron, steel, nickel, and cobalt are examples of magnetic materials.
Object made of magnetic materials are attrached to magnets.
What Materials Are Not Attrached to Magnets ?

Some Materials are not attrached by a magnet. They are called not magnetic materials. All magnetic
materials are magnetic
Aluminium, gold, silver, and copper are some non magnetic metals

Many non metals are not magnetic

Plastic, glass, wood, cloth, paper and rubber are some non magnetic
