They grow deep in the soil.
The roots spread underground.

gumamela, and others have
short roots.
Their roots spread out near the grounds.

Herbs
Herbs like bananas, papayas,
cabbages, and others have tiny roots.
These roots do not spread out
In the soil.

Vines
Vines like grapes, squash, ampalaya,
and others have many roots that do
not grow long.
They spread near the ground.
The roots of these plants help in getting
water from the soil.
