OVERPOPULATION
• Overpopulation is the state whereby the human population rises to an extent exceeding the
carrying capacity of the ecological setting.
• Overpopulation can be caused by a factor like an imbalance between births and deaths. The
infant mortality rate has decreased globally, with 4.1 million infant deaths in 2017 compared
to 8.8 million in 1990, according to the World Health Organization (WHO)
• Overpopulation can cause conflicts, ecological degradation, higher risk of disasters like
pandemics
• The effects of overpopulation include malnutrition, pollution, congested living conditions,
and a lack of health care facilities, all of which increase a community's risk of infectious
diseases.
POVERTY
• Poverty is about not having enough money to meet basic needs including food, clothing
and shelter
• Poverty can cause illness, hunger, and poor sanitation
• Poverty is a significant cause of social stress and threatens to separate a nation due to
inequalities in income.
• Poverty rarely has a single cause. A range of factors including rising living costs, low pay,
lack of work, and inadequate social security

Since Singapore doesn’t have much land, the population is under control so overpopulation doesn’t
happen. But what if overpopulation happen? There will be a huge problem for finding a housing area for
the citizen of Singapore because of the land problem. And not just that, their economic will be affected
since the number of population increase, the demand of their basic needs also increase and people will set
the price higher because the demand is also high. People needs to work to get their basic needs, but since
the job opportunities is limited and the number of population is rising very high, the unemployment rate
will be very high too and it will leads to poverty for the citizen of Singapore
