INTRODUCTION AND HISTORY
These navigation aids are designed to support the driver by
showing the vehicle’s current location on a map and by giving both
visual and audio information on how to efficiently get from one
location to another, i.e., route guidance.
Moreover
many vehicles used in professional services, such as taxis,
buses, ambulances, police cars and fire trucks, are today
equipped with navigation systems that not only show the
current location but also constantly communicate the vehicle
location to a monitoring center.
NAVIGATION SYSTEM
1.What is navigation system?
The word navigation is a combination of two latin words Navis
and Agire.
Navis means- boat
Agire means- guide
Art or science of moving the ships and other water crafts
safely move one place to another place
Today word navigation used in broad sense, its provide useful information to

NAVIGATION SYSTEM IN AUTOMOBILE
GPS is used in automobile for navigation purpose.
What is GPS?
G-GLOBAL
P-POSITIONING
S-SYSTEM
GPS is a first man made satellite navigation system
that is used for automobiles.
HISTORY
Firstly GPS system was developed in 1973 it become
fully operational in 1995
Engineers Ivan alexander, Bradford Parkinson and
roger L. Eston American scientist invented with the help
of US (DOD)
IDEA- To keep the track of enemies, but later in 1991
they open it for civilians.
COMPONENTS OF NAVIGATION

Control components
User components
SPACE COMPONENTS
It includes the satellite and delta rockets.
What is Delta rocket?
They launch the satellite.
What is Satellite?
A GPS satellite is a smaller object in space which is orbiting in
its orbit around the earth at a height of 20200 km and with
speed equal t0 14000km/h relative to the earth.
A satellite completes two revolution around earth in one day. It operating
on solar energy, its send GPS signal to the earth
GPS
GPS signal?
A GPS signal is radio signal send by the GPS
satellite the signal travels at the speed of
light.
How many satellite GPS contains?
24 satellite currently working in GPS.
CONTROL COMPONENTS
Control components of a GPS includes the stations around the world where GPS
satellite are monitored. The control components is responsible for ensuring that
the GPS satellite are working properly and functioning.
STATIONS
1 Colorado (air force base)
2 Hawaii
3 Ascension island
4 Kwajalein island
5 Diego garcis atoll
USER COMPONENT
The user component includes the GPS receivers.
What is a GPS receiver?
A GPS receiver is a device which receive GPS signal sent by a satellite.
A GPS receiver consist of a clock and almanac.
What is a GPS receiver clock?
It measures the time of the signal from satellite to reach the GPS
receiver.
What is an almanac?
It tells the position of satellite to the receiver.
e.g. the satellite will be above the city A at 9:30PM and will be above
the city B at 3:10AM.
